If driving this type of car attracts attention, then why drive it? Besides, if someone wants to shoot you bad enough they'll just wait for you to get out of the car LOL.

I have good friends from latin america and the DR, and I think the general consensus is that they don't want to let the kidnap threats etc. get to them. You have to live your life and enjoy yourself, while also taking reality into account, and that doesn't mean living in a shack and driving a P.O.S. car in the hopes that you will fly under the radar.
People in the US don't really understand how it works. Kidnapping is a true industry down there, it's a business. They target people selectively. They aren't just driving around the city looking for whoever is in a Mercedes. There are people on the take inside the banks, who will tip them off to how much is in your accounts, your parents' accounts, your uncles' accounts, and there are people on the take inside the motor vehicle department who will tell them your address, your license numbers, etc. They also have people on the take inside companies, who tip them off as to which executives and family members are covered by insurance.
It's a lot more sophisticated than just picking someone in traffic, and I don't think the type of car you're in will make any difference, except maybe as a deterrent. If you have an S-Guard edition with gun ports and an armed bodyguard, they might go looking for easier targets. But other than that, it's all pre-planned, what you drive doesn't play into it, and by the time they try and jump you they've already been watching you for weeks or months.
