Exclamation Thinking of BULLETPROFING the ride....

Hey guys, i live in a volatile country, my parents are basically telling me to bulletproof my E, eather this, or bulletprofe the G class 3.6 brabus... but that G class consumes so much gasoline, that i really do not think its a wise choice...

my question...

you guys think the V6, 3.2 will withstand the added weight? would i **** up my ride? ride i love btw....

or , you guys think the G class is a way better car to do this on, i think its too unstable as it is dough.... and damn does it swallow gas.. i think probably 13mpg right now...

any thoughts?

thanx guys...

+1

And if you're worried about performance you can always switch the e for a 55

Do you want to fully armor the car from blast protection as well or just wanting to keep everyone inside safe from a 7.62 round (and smaller)? Maybe gun ports too in case you need to return fire. I'd do the E so you can get outta whatever situation you're in as fast as possible.

Yeah, what country do you live in? No offense, but I come from South America and over there I wouldn't even dare to own anything pass a civic. Over there, they target people that own cars higher than corollas for kidnaps, whatever. What it is very common is to bulletproof SUVs (4runners, etc). You have to adjust to your circumstances and your enviroment. If you want flashy cars move out of hte country, sorry to say.

I friend of mine in Mexico City recently went through this and decided it was far cheaper to buy a used vehicle that was already bullet proofed. He ended up with an Escalade that had engine/suspension/brake mods to deal with the extra wight of the added protection. It also had run flat tires and a smoke generating system. Don't forget that if you are really concerned about safety, the glass needs to be bulletproofed, the front and rear bulkheads need to be protected, and the floor of the vehicle should be protected.

Just some thoughts for you.

I don't mean to come off as insensitive, but I'll risk it: I don't know much about bulletproofing a vehicle, but I'm assuming that at a minimum it costs over $10k (I could be wrong). Where I'm going with this, is that if you can afford to have the vehicle bulletproofed, you shouldn't really be worrying about your mpg.

Bullet proofing will significantly add weight to your vehicle. You'll need to beef up the suspension accordingly. The G may have a head start with it's clearance. May be easier.

I gotta imagine bulletproofing correctly costs way more than that... bulletproof tires, glass, doors, then the engine compartment and trunk?

I would not add too much weight to the car without adding more power, better brakes and a beefed up suspension. If you really are in a situation that you need the protection, after the initial exchange of fire, your best defense will be to get the **** out of the kill zone ASAP. All the armor in the world won't mean dick if your immobilized, they will find a way to get to you.

I would just suggest moving. When the day comes that I have to decide which car I need to bullet proof is the day I put a for sale sign in the front yard, pack up shop and get the hell out of dodge.

This link is an awesome demonstration of the S-Guard series - very impressive! It definitely affects performance though!

Something doesn't smell right. Can we have an IP source check? No offense but I'm trying to figure out why gas mileage is a concern?

lol, i know, lotts of posers on this forum.. i feel you.. but dont worry..

anyways... guys this is where i stand.. went to the local bulletproof shop .. www.blindamax.com... they had 60 cars in process, incredible...

Mercedes benz, they had a C300 beleave it or not, and a ML... the low down, $22k for a level 3+, and i think $35k for a level 4... pretty impresive.. i actually thought that it was more expensive...

he says, the 3+ since its kevlar everywhere instead of steel, the hole thing adds 450pounds to the car...

anyways.. not sure what to do, i have been looking at the S class 2007 on ebay in the USA, and damn they have gone down in price... $63,000 for a S550 with probably 12,000 miles... not bad i think.. anyways, thiking of buying that since the E class changes year in like 6 months... the 550 will pull the weight way better than the 320 v6.... the S class will change styling in what, 2015?

also selling the ride right now i wont loose that much depreciation since is has not changed model just yet...

what do you guys think...?
thanx for the help guys...

This thread absolutely makes no sense... how is mpg even a consideration when you will be spending literally tens of thousands on bulletproofing the car???

Its like needing brain suregery and then complaining about health insurance rates.

I may be wrong here but I can see how gas would be a concern to Christiaan. His parents are willing to pay for his safety but not necessarily his gas.

If you are thinking of the price of gas then why r u in need of protection ? Seems odd to me...
Anyway, neither vehicle is cut out for it. Buy a Suburban that has already been done and save yourself a lot of cash - for fuel....
