On the fence: Cl600 vs E55
I'm still shopping for a new car and im on the fence between a 2003+ Cl600 or E55 Amg 2004+. I'm a young guy and im looking for something that sporty yet luxurious. I've driven many E55's and i just love its brutish charm and how it can transform into a luxury cruiser within seconds. Is the cl the same? Is it slower?

I've had many an AMG. The V8 Kompressor cars I've had are an E55 and modded SL55. I now drive a SL65. There's a world of difference between the V12 and the V8K. The 12 is a much better powerplant all around. Between the 600 and 55 the numbers may look similar, but don't be decieved, the 600 is quicker. The 12 is also buttery smooth. Car wise I can't say much about the CL as I've never owned one. The E though is a great platform and very capable. You just need to drive them and see.

I had a W211 E55 and a W215 CL65. While the 65 was faster in a straight line (barely over my heavily modded E) the 65 lacked driver involvement. This is not to say the 55 is the greatest 4 door handling and driver involving sedan but there is something to say about the chassis and the feedback associated with it.
The 65 was almost too detached and the steering was numb. The 55 in comparo was tossable and more responsive. Was the 65 faster, yes in a straight line but speed to me is not everything. Interiorwise the 65 was the nicer of the two in relation to leather and comfort but it was just not as fun.
These are my short opinions and others will differ (especially CL65 owners ) but if I could get either car it would be the 55.

V12
How much longer do you think they will be available?
If I don't see a 63TT in 2010 it will be a CPO 65.

+1 no denying the v12 tt powerplant. my buddy has the cl600 and its more plush and comfy then my E. back seats are only good if your 2 foot 2 though. other then that. its a go in my book.

05' E55 AMG
E55 all the way
honestly drive the cl600 youre gonna hate it. it drives like a boat. me and my buddy went to AMG challenge last year at california speedway and we had the opportunity to drive the cl63 before it came out. no one wanted to drive, me and my buddy thought it was way to sluggish, not sporty at all, very old manish in handling, fun to get on the freeway, but around a turn it sucks. You will be way happier with an E55! im on my second one love the car.
P.S.
I am considering selling my 05' E55. I have it posted on the forum. Check out my post. No offers yet.

2006 E55 AMG
No offense to the CL600 guys but that car is for the older guys. I drove both the CL55 and the E55 so I can't comment on the SCV8 vs the V12 but the CL just drove like it was built for my Dad. The driving experience was all about luxury versus performance. Which is not a bad thing, just different. If you want to be engaged with your car get the E55. If you want to max out and get your pimp hand on, go with the CL.
