i saw a matte black cls55 i believe it was at sema. anyways the car looked amazing. the wheels must be done the same to look right with that color.

regarding color change i would consider a blue/black. a deep metallic blue of some sort that comes out in direct light. but looks black otherwise. i had that color (carbon black metallic) on my m3 and loved it. or maybe a straight dark metallic blue. sorry to hear about your fender bender. hope everything works out!

Matte Black

I love the way Matte Black looks but I would never paint my car that color. From personal experience and painting custom sport bikes, Matte Black it a biatch.

The upkeep on this type of paint is never ending. This type of paint shows everything.... and I mean everything!!! b/c there is on gloss clear protectant on there EVERY scratch and rock chip (big or small) will show. I saying if a bunny farts in the woods and blows sand out on the road the same time you drive by... its gunna scratch.

Don’t get me wrong it looks great, for a good example look up the C63 Brabus Black Arrow. This is one of my favorite cars!!!

If you don’t go with Matte Black, and since your car is black you are going to have to stay dark otherwise you will have to strip you car down to the essentials to color match everything…. I would go with either a Black Phantom Pear or a Titanium / Carbon Grey with a black candy coat to give you a nice color change it different lights but will keep the car dark grey during the day and almost black at night. If you want to go an even darker overall look then when they are painting you car have them pull off the chrome molding and shoot it with black candy… this will give you a smoke or black chrome look.

With your wheels either Matte Black powder coat (very strong and hard to chip) with a light color pin strip to accent the size of your wheels… or matte lip with gun metal center and gun metal pin stripe.

.
I don't think the upkeep is as bad as you say. There is clearcoat on the the car, it's just matte. That's what gives it its look, not lack of clear.

Yeah, that is why I said there was "no gloss clear" coat on the car... Matte anything paint is very fragile and shows scratches very easy.

Did not think flat black would look good until I saw that SLR.

Still not sure the reason was due to it being an SLR though.

Do it. I want to but I dont have the extra cash. It would look sick.

And an SL65 would be gorgeous. Matte black everything... rims, hood, "gills", rear lights, brake rotors.

& go to town on that badboy

Side note the combo/contrast of flat/matte blk w/CF bits is But notice how any imperfection is magnified a 1000 fold i.e. the hood-line on the top of grill between Brabus Flat badge seems rippled, if Clear coat was applied this would disappear

These look amazing on the amg forum... . I think if you can do something like these it would look sick. I imagine it would be a pretty expensive paint job.

I am pretty sure that is satin black pearl paint not matte black. If you have ever seen plain matte black paint it looks terrible. The Satin is a semi-gloss paint and it looks incredible in person.
