Personal Best Top Speed In Your E55?
I am running 245/35zr20s on the front and 285/35zr20s on the back. When I had my stock wheels on, I tried it up to 150 and it felt less planted.
The car is planted and stable at those speeds, I have even taken some big sweepers at 190.
Interstate 88 heading west between Rt.47 and Dekalb is a nice flat open stretch, try it some Sunday morning, just make sure you have a buddy running a mile ahead of you looking for the police.
It is the same sensation as on my 2002 Dodge/Mercedes/Freighliner Sprinter Van (prior to ECU flash). It would hit the 86mph speed limiter and it would just run out of breath and stay there.
Just as an FYI ...... Here in Florida I feel its actually dangerous and inconsiderate to be limited to 85mph on vehicles like these that ride on freeways (and yes I do understand the tire speed rating - mine are not OEM).
Often I would pass slower vehicles on the I95, only to have them speed up next to me and then I douldnt complete the pass, would have Mack truck tooting their horns at me and couldnt go anywhere, and I would be stuck there until I had an opening to drop back in the slow lane. So I had the ECU programmed and now can happily hit the aero limit around 110mph, and make the pass stick.
Hitting the speed limiter and hitting aero limit feel very different, as with the speed limiter you are accelerating (albeit slowly) and then you hit the wall. Wrt to the aero limit, you know a long time ahead when you are going to hit the it as the rate of acceleration has slowed to almost non existant.
PS Jim - been a real fan of your car for a long time!

Neither numbers are top end, just the best that I can hit on a daily basis.
And the record is 362 km/h (226 mls/h)

Read this tread!

Oh and my thoughts about 190 not feeling like 170 had nothing to do with your post- stop posting here and go out get an ECU that allows you drive that car at full capacity (mph wise).
I had a good friend take out my 1993 RX7 up to 157mph with me as a passenger in 1993 and pretty soon we had 12 cop cars on us...glocks to our temples....he want to jail for a few months since he was the driver...ever since then I've been skittish...be careful everyone. I don't want to hear anymore M5 tragedy type stories.

Oh yeah, when on the 5 watch out for all the trucks with furniture in the pick up beds- I nearly got whacked by a recliner and nasty spode infested sofa

Sorry about going OT.

In my old modded C6 I was racing some guy in an Audi S6, I flew past him and the damned C6 felt like she was about to lift off the ground, when I finally had the ballzz to look @ the HUD/speed it read 184 mph, i'm betting I hit 190+ before I lifted & looked @ speedo.
The C6 Corvette felt very loose/floaty @ those speeds, I NEVER took her up that high again, in contrast the SL600 feels like a battleship! steady as a rock @ 1xx mph... I will deff be testing her after ECU/TCU to see if she can reach the 200 club
