Need Advice shipping cars
#26
Lots of reliable movers out there and I have found a price of $1200-$1500 to be the norm per car cross country. Try to get a covered transport and make sure that your car is put in first so that it is not taken in and out 3 or 4 times during the trip as the driver shuffles cars around. Remember, with every shuffle is a chance of damage.

Whatever you do, DON'T EVEN CONSIDER using D.A.S.

I could go on for a year posting all the complaints they've racked up, but by now you get the idea. Stay far far away from these morons.

And the winner is...
Time was running out to ship 2 cars from San Diego, CA to Crystal Lake, IL. Winner and losers below I hope this is useful to someone else at some point:
Winner:
Reliable Carriers - (www.reliable-carriers.com) - $1560 x 2 = $3120
- Recommended by a member in this post and someone else I know
- Have Dream Car Garage TV Sponsorship
- Good overall reputation
- Pricing in the mid to high level for enclosed
- No deposit required
- In the end I decided to spend a little more money for peace of mind
since fixing any damage on a car these days is always a $1000+ endeavor
Runner Up:
Intercity (www.intercitylines.com) - $1689 x 2 = $3378
- Great reputation
- Recommended here, internet, tv shows
- Lots of track record with high end cars
- A bit pricey but most likely worth it
On Deck:
Continental Auto Movers (www.continentalautomover.com) - $1350 x 2 = $2700
- Great price for enclosed
- Required $600 deposit
- Sales people were way to pushy, more so than any other carrier to the
point it scared me they were like all ex-used car salesmen
- I almost took a chance with these guys because they had decent online
reviews but the scary follow up calls changed my mind
Magic Carpet Auto Transport (www.magiccarpetautotransport.com) - $1699 x 2 = $3398
- Saw a decent amount of good reviews in various places
- recommended here, so probably not a bad choice
FedEx fka Passport (www.fedex.com) - $1775 x 2 = $3550
- Good reputation
- Saw good reviews on them
- nice trailers
- Expensive
Left Field - I did not heavily research these carriers but did receive quotes
Bears Transport (www.bearstranport.com) $1775 x 2 = $3550 - really high
Enclosed Vehicle Transport (www.enclosedvehicletransport.com)
Cascade Vehicle Shipping (www.cascadevehicleshipping.com) $1714 x 2 = $3428
Domestic Auto Transport (www.domesticautotransport.com) $1472 x 2 = $2944
Miscellaneous:
www.uship.com
I ended up getting 2 bids. One was DAS the other was new to the site and had no recommendations or reviews.
Overall this is an interesting place to find a shipper for almost anything.
www.transportreviews.com
- had reviews on lots of carriers
Thanks everyone, especially for the DAS warnings! Good luck to anyone else shipping in the near future.

Just a final note. Reliable Carriers was great. The driver was good, called ahead when picking up and dropping off. The truck and trailer were really nice and there were 3 Acura race cars on the trailer in addition to my cars. Cars were picked up Monday night in San Diego and delivered Thursday afternoon in IL.

I just booked with Reliable to pick up a BMW for the wife from Oakland, first impressions were great, I got a quote of $1610 to drop it off in Barrington, but I elected to have it dropped at Autobahn CC in Joliet this morning. Can't wait to see it come off the truck!
