Opinions - E63 vs C63
I have been lurking here since my wife and I decided to order a C63. In September, we order a C63 with all options except carbon fiber. The car is to arrive shortly.
The reason for the post is a new 2008 E63 that the dealer has offered for the same price as the C63. The E63 has all options but the Performance package and Distronic.
The car will be a daily driver with the occasional canyon drive and possibly some track time.
We have an appointment to drive both cars back to back tomorrow but before we drive them, I was interested to hear from owners of both cars on their thoughts and why they would choose one over the other given the same situation.
By the way, I understand that the E63 and the C63 are not usually shopped against one another as they are really focused at two different demographics and that is the main reason for my question.
I apologize in advance for my searching skills if this has been previosuly discussed.
Thanks in advance for all responses.

I have a C63 and have a decent amount of seat time in a friends E63. The long and short of it is, you'll find the E to be more of a highway cruiser, you can feel the extra mass when accelerating, braking, etc. That being said if you're in it for the luxury it is a nicer car overall. The C63 is also much smaller on the inside, if you plan on having more than 1 passenger in the car frequently I'd probably go with the E.
Best of luck, can't really go wrong either way.

The E63 is the more luxurious car but the C63 is the better car. It has the same engine with less mass mated to a more capable chassis.
This wouldn't be a tough choice for me. If they built a factory SLK55K or C55K, I would own that instead of the E55 in a heartbeat.

The dealer wants the E63 off the floor plan. It is getting difficult to find buyers.

if you need the backseat the e is a no brainer. for me personally, i've never been a fan of smaller sedans. i'd rather have a porsche or something comparable as a GT.

I'd take the E as I'm big and tall. The C was too tight and the drivers seat uncomfortable for a long daily commute. The C interior is 'low rent' but wow is it fast!

I recently drove a C63 at my local AMG Performance event and came away super impressed by the car.
Unlike some other comments here, I did not find the interior to be of inferior quality, and liked the updated layout with the COMAND.
For me, because I need it as a family car, the C is too small.
But as a driver's car, the C63 wins hands down compared to my E63 - especially with that new 7G-Tronic, which now features the throttle blip on downshifts, was absolutely brilliant and the suspension tuning was spot on.
If you plan on occasional track work, the C63 would be a better bet for a road course.
It all depends on what your priorities are for the car and the utility needed, can't go wrong with either one.

He's offering you a 25k+ discount on the E63?
C 63 $66K
E 63 $93K
C 63 451 HP.
E 63 507 HP.
You typically get a lot more quality stuff built in when you are talking that kind of differential. If you plan on tracking the car you'll want the c63, but how often does anyone really track an automatic? Get the E-Class.

As to power on the C63...I am under the impression that they dyno the same as the E63. Just like the E55 will dyno the same as the SL55 despite its artificially lower rating from MB.

I thought I would check in before heading off to the dealer.
Thanks for all the responses.
With regards to the questions about price, the dealer is offering $25K off a sticker of $95K for the E63, which is the same as the MSRP of the C63. The E63 is brand new with 21 miles and has been on the showroom floor for a few months. And, as Yacht Master said, they want to move it.
As it is just me and my wife and no need for a large back seat, there is no requirement to go to the larger size of the E. And, as no one has commented to a downside to either car, other than the E being larger and the C not being as luxurious, the test drive will go a long way to making the decision.
I will update the thread when we decide after the test drive.

Keep the C63, besides looking better than the E63 (my opinion) the C63 is also much lighter, so once you get the ECU bumped up to at least stock E63 output numbers it is going to be a lot faster than the E.
There is a reason they are discounting the E's, the new body style will be out in a year or less. C's are gonna be unchanged for at least 5 more years.

The c63 feels like a kids car. Out here in Cali a younger crowd drives the the C class and the silver spoon fed kids drive the c63.
I drive a e63 and love the comfort. The airmatic is to die for. I dont think i can ever go back to a car with springs. It feels rough. I love the fact that I can raise and lwoer the car depending on the event.
The fact of the matter is that the c63 will probably cost more per month than a e63 these days due to demand.
The C feels entry level and compact. If you want a car for performance then go with the C63 but if you want all around comfort, speed and performance the E63 is the way to go.
My e63 is modded with wheels and slammed on a RT elm and my girlfriend cant tell the difference in ride quality. If you plan to tune the c63 i think your wife would eventually not want to ride in the car.

Unless you just REALLY want the C, I'd say you would be crazy to pass up the $$$$$ savings you would realize buy going with the E. At $25k off sticker, that gives you about a year of driving for free before you start to see typical AMG depreciation. Yes, the C has some newer goodies....the biggest one being the Speedshift + transmission....but, the E63 is in a different class and is much more refined and grown up. Just depends on what you want. Personally, I would go with the E.

+100000000 maybe im just getting old now. But the seats in the E are very comfy. and the air ride is something i am spoiled by now. some call it detached from the road and numb. i dont care because im not going back to anything harsh for a long time.
go for the e63. smooth, roomy and fast.

Thanks to everyone that commented. It was actually a much harder decision than I thought.
In the end, while probably not the most financially intelligent decision, we are going with the C63.
I was quite impressed with the build materials of the E63, but my wife fell in love with the C63. And, as she is going to be driving it most of the time, that is what we will be getting.
If anyone is interested in a new (25 miles) 2008 Flint Grey Metllic E63 with black interior and all options but the performance package and distronic for $71,500 ($95,840 MSRP), PM me and I will put you in touch with my sales person. The car is on the East Coast, but I am sure that it can be shipped.
Thanks again for all the comments.
