Distronic Option
Is this rare option used frequently? I would assume one would use it whenever cruise control is engaged? For me that would be every other month or so on our trips from San Diego to Santa Barbara 200 miles. And on a few trips to the Bay Area 550 miles. I have cruise now, and don't use it that often, but perhaps I should especially with Distronic.

I use mine all the time, it is a great option. Along with parktronic, auto trunk closer (love this), and every other button known to man.
A sports car should be stripped, a luxury sports sedan should be loaded!

Seems like MJ50 and Steve have become best friends
Better to purchase with the option. I have been in contact with MBenzNL steve regarding a few mods.
I don't have a Wagon (yet). I have passed on a few because I haven't found one with all the options close to California.

Steve added Distronic System to my W211.
Its my favorite option next to the Drive Dynamic Heated Vented Multicontour seats
Once you have Distronic You will Understand Why You Need it
Great for long trips

I live on the cruise control, keeps me out of trouble. I know, I would love distronic and fear acquiring it, (and a new associated addiction). Is Mercedes the only manufacturer that offers distronic?

And, yes I use it often and I would hate to have a car that didn't have it.

Monaco licenses the system from Benz for their motor coaches. Outside of that, i have not seen it from any supplier outside of Benz. Just the radar module alone is $3,300, the grill is another $700, and I bet the control module, harness, and shifter surround with the required controls are all $$$$ too. Well worth the initial price of admission but probably not for a retrofit.

Handy thing with distronic is when following any other cars, just set it to a higher speed and the car stays in that place, great.
Early systems shut off at speeds below 20mph, 2003 SBC stop and hold introduced,, 2007either stop or hold removed on STAR when car goes in for service. cant remember which one

I know SAAB has system that will stop the car automatically under 9mph if it senses a front end impact is eminent due to driver inattention (i.e., text messaging) - mostly used in city traffic and shopping centers. Different functionality that Distronic.
