Removed Charcoal Filters
#26
I sent emails to the guys I remember and will post any response. I almost remeber that it was when the car was new and then went away after 1500 miles, but that was a long time ago.

ok i bought a code reader and ran it, it said i #1 is running lean, i reset it and it came back on today. I am thinknig the best route to take is refit the filters and go and let the dealer sort it out.

Happens on a lot of E60 M5s after CF-removal. CEL light will disappear on it's own within a hundred miles or so if the AMGs are the same. Certainly nothing to worry about, you just returned your car to its natural Euro-spec.

There are lots of people who took off their charcoal filters and got no CEL at all. At this point, we'd all be guessing as to what has caused the CEL; the best way to confirm is to get a code reader as others have suggested.

He did and posted that something #1 was running lean. I'd put the filters back in and go to the dealer.

Ooops, sorry I didn't see that post. I'm almost 100% sure that the message he got is not from the filters. I've seen people take the charcoal filters off at the track and put them on so many times without a single problem

Warranty FTW!

Figured i would let you guys know about my filter fiasco, i refit the filters day before i took it to the dealer and the next morning no check engine light, so i guess it was the filters that caused the CEL but i am going to remove them again and try to find out what the filter fix is.
