Did I order the wrong DR's?

I was looking at MT's website and I noticed that I order the street radial and not the DR's. I thought for sure this was the right one and I'm still hoping it is. Is this the type of tire most are running with...tread patterns or the slick type?

Thats a good choice, like we talked about you can drive on that tire. It is a very good choice for drag racing, not a true slick as the tire has tread. You will want to do some hard driving on the tires to release the compounds. On your first pass burn out 8 - 10 seconds.

Your fine bro quit worrying, LOL

Juicee...alright, I'll stop worrying about all the little stuff. I'm just so damn excited that the 1st meet I'll be attending is a HUUUGE one! This is going to be a epic event.

Chiro - Thanks. that's what I wanted to hear!

Jakpro1 - Are you running the same tires? If yes do you have a recommended tire pressure to run them at?

Since these are new, would you guys recommend mounting the tires on for the drive to Famoso or just do a long burn out on my 1st pass like Juicee suggested?

i've tried psi from 15 to 36 and found 28 works best for me. i get great launches and zero stability problems at higher speeds. our cars weigh way too much to use the lower pressures that many drag racers recommend. imho, lower than 25psi in our application causes a decreased contact patch and i wouldn't be surprised if it's also responsible for some of the limited complaints of instability at higher speeds.

Question Mikey......

Ahmad/Blackbenz runs his at 16psi. If the guy didn't run 11 flat, you could dismiss it.

Maybe it's just that the CLK is lighter?? (meaning no problems wiggling around at top end)

Then again, Mikey is Mr 1.6 60' so now I don't know what the heck to run them at???!!!

I guess I would make the statement that if you are not used to feeling your car wigglin in the A-ss end at 125+, maybe stick to the 25 plus pressure just to be safe.

I believe it's a weight issue. if our cars weighed several hundred pounds less I'm sure I'd be running less psi.

I run 18 PSI (not a big difference).

Mickey Thompson recommends 12-16PSI for 275 and smaller http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/tech.php?bulletin=s7

I'm the John Force of burnouts LOL. I probably overdo it. I usually get it into 3rd or 4th gear and stay at a high rpm til it starts to drop and then ride out the burnout to the staging lanes. Like so (riding out the burnout)...

i don't showboat like ahmad does in his sig! (j/k buddy)

ussually 3-5 seconds or just enough to see smoke coming from the tires. maybe a touch longer if track prep is lacking.

I like the street radial 2, only b/c it will give you a little better overall performance...not sure if anyone has told you, but try your best to stay away from rain with those on.

Alright guys, the tires are mounted and ready to go. One thing that does concern me is how close the setup sits to my fenders. My car was slightly lowered and I'm wondering if this might rub. If this is the case will it be okay to launch with the airmatic on up?

I thought I read somewhere that you are supposed to raise the car so it has a chance to rotate the weight to the rear of the car as you launch.

I'm running MT 265 40 18's with Kosei 18X9 rims. I don't think it will rub but I'll confirm tomorrow morning before work....

Does anyone raise their car using the airmatic up button near the shifter to launch? I guess after certain speeds the car lowers itself when it's in this mode...is that right.

yeah thats my experience with airmatic up. I always stage in full UP postion and by the time i make it to the end of the strip it has disabled itself and lowered to regular drving height. For me this was responsible for a huge dip in my race times.
GL and enjoy the rubber

you should be ok with that set up unless the offset is wrong. and yes, raise the car to it's highest setting to launch.

On Mickeys site....
"CAUTION: It is not recommended that radial and non-radial tires be mixed on the same vehicle.."

Why is that?

Because I see blackbenzz are still using his street tires up front in that video.

Because the car "sways" on the top end if you mix tires and its difficult to maintain control. The sidewalls are very soft on bias ply tires.

Ughhh, I am the one that keeps telling people not to mix tires The tires I run in the rear are indeed radials, not bias ply tires. Therefore I am not mixing tires.
