Tired looking for the fill up on the right hand side of the engine bay, it is not there.

It's there...I found it. Remove the hex screws for the air filter on the RIGHT (passenger) side. Then lift the base of the air filter housing out. You will see the red labeled tab in the pic above. I broke off the tab and pushed out the plastic pieces w/ something sharp. Then pull on the cap/plug so you can add transmission fluid. NOW, I am at the point of how much tranny fluid to add. MB parts guy said 6.5 qts but I don't trust him. He told me I could re use the oil drain plugs and he was WRONG. MB specifically states to change the plugs/washers otherwise it will leak. Of course, previous place I took the car to for an oil change (MB independent) didn't change the plugs and it did leak.Originally Posted by shardul

Hoo hoo, did all 4 brakes w/ low dust akebono pads, 4 new tires, oil change, and now working on the tranny fluid change. Still have to do SC belt, air/cabin filters, and spark plugs to finish it off.
Anybody know the tranny fluid capacity for 2006 E55??
Thanks!!

This says 8 quarts I believe...but I would verify from your owner's manual.

Thanks for the help. Bought the car used and it didn't have the owner's manual so I cannot confirm it. Will have to invest/waste $$ on a dipstick through fleabay. I can at least add 6.5 qts for now.Originally Posted by Timeless

Well, test drove the car and tranny fluid is leaking. Will check the pan bolts/gasket and I am ordering the special tool to check the tranny fluid level.

Beware!! The dealership parts dept sold me 7 quarts and told me to fill it w/ 6.5 quarts. It's TOO MUCH!!! I ended up draining about 3 quarts. In other words, I would buy 4 to max 5 quarts. Add 3.0 quarts and start checking/adding from there. You will need to purchase the MB dipstick tool or equivalent to check the level. BTW, this is on a 2006 E55. It was a tranny fluid drain and filter change. There was still fluid in the lines. Wish I had this info before starting the tranny flush project. Lastly, you CAN access the tranny fluid female end of the dipstick tube without removing the air filter and its housing. It is located down and toward the back by the firewall on the PASSENGER side...between the air filter housing and firewall.
