Who all have done a tranny flush
As the title says who all have done a transmission flush and also at what mileage.
Is it a simple DIY procedure?

Merely dropping the pan - and installing a new filter – will necessitate ~four liters. It’s quick and easy.
A complete fluid replenishment is somewhat more involved for the competent DIYer. If you’re at all familiar proper transmission servicing techniques, there’s no sense in delaying the procedure once you’ve breached the 40,000 mile threshold. Our 722.6xx transmissions are hell bent for strong. However, its previously recommended “lifetime fill” is pound foolish, IMHO.
Ensure that only MB’s 001 989 21 03 10 fluid is used during the replacement, and that its level is correctly verified.

splinter, very interesting PDF. Very similar to my 2001 Volvo V70, except the connection for the hose was right inside the engine compartment so I never had to lay down.
I wonder if the 7spd would be similar. $400-$600 at the dealer for this transmission.

Your seven-speed 722.9xx is an altogether different piece of hardware.
Trust you’re aware that MB’s 001 989 45 03 01 is its only approved fluid, and that its service procedure is rather unique.
Have you had the DTB-specified software update performed?

If not done the trans will likely begin misbehaving around 100k miles. This life time fill bs is just a way to lower ownership costs but it kills the transmission.
Trouble is if you wait until say 90k miles to flush it, the trans is likely pretty worn and the new fluid will allow the parts to have significantly more play and then it will likely fail soon after.
Change it every 30k miles and the trans should last for many many miles with no problems.
I know of 3 friends with cars hitting 100k miles and all 3 say the trans is starting to get very jerky and also slurring shifts on part throttle.
It is not cheap to do the service as the fluid is expensive but it is very worth the money.

I just did this and it's not a difficult job. Just be aware of the oem location of the trans filter once you drop the pan. Also, be very careful dropping the pan as there is still quite a bit of fluid in the pan even after draining it from the plug.

The Aug 2007 Service products booklet does call out MB Part No. A001 989 45 03 13 for the oil, seems like just an update from A001 989 45 03 10 which is listed in the PDF link you provided. I think you reversed the last 2 numbers when you were typing.

Hello
I just drained the tranny fluid and changed the filter. How much fluid did you add and where did you add it? I have been doing some searches but don't get clear answers on where the trans fluid "dipstick tube" is. I read somewhere that there is no dipstick and you need to break a seal of some sort and replace it. Did you have to do this? I have a 2006 E55 amg by the way.
BTW Max. H your PM box is full. Thank you for your help!!

I am still in the middle of the job as I am doing a host of other work on the car...front/rear pads/rotors, plugs, oil, trans, air/cabin filters, sc belt and new tires.
You need to get a tranny pan gasket, drain plug washer, I got a new drain plug as well, filter and of course fluid. They said I would need 6.5 quarts so I bought 7 quarts but I can't seem the verify the capacity for the car. I have a 2006 e55 btw.
Remove the 2 undertrays w/ 8mm socket. Remove the tranny drain plug w/ a hex socket...be careful not to strip it! Once drained remove the 6 bolts around the pan to drop the pan. Be careful not to spill it as you drop it as there is still quite a bit of fluid in the pan. Note the orientation of the filter before touching it. Just pull down on the filter and it pops off. Wipe any residual fluid off the pan and the tranny. Replace the filter in the same orientation as the original. Reinstall in reverse order. I am now in the process of adding the fluid but am looking for the access tube...will check later. I believe it's under the left air duct.

Wow, that is quite a deal.
I had a drain and fill done at 48K miles and it cost me around $300.00.
Am at 56K miles now and noticed a leak on the floor. Dealership said there was a problem with some electronic drain plug?
Anyways, $525.00 later, it is supposedly fixed (extended warranty paid for it). They replaced the faulty plug and also did the filter and pan supposedly also.
