Upgraded heat exchanger with stock IC?
I've read in a few posts that the CM30 pump is an improvement over the stock unit mainly in reliability. I've recently replaced the stock IC pump under warranty and it seems to be working perfectly. Could I use the stock pump in conjunction with an upgraded heat exchanger to support pulley & tune mod? If the stock pump goes bad I would then replace with a CM30.

Point2Point,
It's an improvement in reliability and in FLOW (the more important part). The pump is not expensive and practically bolt on - just do it with the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is practically worthless without an upgraded pump with more flow.

You can change the wiring so that the pump is in an ignition on condition. (on with engine).
One other good idea is to split the IC system from engine cooling side.
Lastly get a new low temp thermostat from member PTE.
