'09 CTS-V or '06 E55???

I'm new here currently have an 08 Jeep SRT8 GC and 05 545i M6, love both but have been eyeing the E55 (not E63, don't think it looks as nice) and 09 CTS-V. Looked at the V yesterday and can't get around the old fashion tidbits GM still throws in its cars. Just looking at the door hinges, the toy like flimsy trunk hinges, the holow sound of the doors, the **** poor seat (sans the $3k Recaro option)....BUT the 556hp, not that's nice and it's avail with a true 6 speed...something I like. Any of you compare these two cars? The E55 is truly ahead of its time!

How will I like the E55 compared to my incredible 545i. I truly love this car!

Thanks!

RE: 09 CTS-V

I got a new CTS-V last week, traded my 07 Jeep SRT-8 for it. I was/am looking to get into a CPO 07 or 08 E63, came close to pulling the trigger a couple of times, but have not found the right one at the right price within reasonable distance as yet.

Anyhow, I looked at the 1st 09 CTS-V my local dealer got, drove it, and went back a couple of days later and bought my color about 75 miles away. It is not a Benz, but IMHO is a better car than a C63 (no flames intended), for the same dough. It is also pretty darn fast and corners very well, way faster than my Jeep SRT was anyway. The base seats aren't bad at all either, try them again. While it is not a Mercedes, I really like it.

I'm still looking for that E63, but am now having lots of fun with my E550 and new toy though, and will take my time to see what happens to W211 values over the next month or 2 between the economy and W212 pending arrival.

I have a 07 Jeep SRT8 and a 09 E63. I would get the E55 if you don't like the looks of the E63. The CTS-V has more power but it's not a Mercedes. The E55 will destroy your BMW in every way.

Can you really compare a 545 to a E55,,, I think a better comparison would be to a M5. I had a CTS-V and they are still GM cheap. Not to mention like the E55's the Cts-V will be worth pennies on the dollar in about a year or so.

You already sold an 09 CTS-V?

If you're comparing to anything prior to 08, it's not a reasonable comparison.

Personally, for a sedan I'd go with the CTS-V. I have an E55 Wagon and there isn't a CTS-V equivalent.

If you're comparing a 09 CTS-V to a 06 E55 I'd choose the CTS. It should best the E in a straight line (waiting to see real world numbers) and it also bests the M5/6 in handling; and we all know the E55 cannot hang with an M in terms of handling.

I'm a numbers guy.

i looked at the new cts-v last weekend. great car but does feel cheap compared to the E55/E63. Handling wise, CTS-V would take it but honestly how often do you need better handling than the E55 has? If you don't track your car, you probably dont. The E55 handles pretty well on its own IMHO, specially in sport 2 mode. And a Mercedes is a Mercedes...we all know that. Further, you'd lose more on depreciation on a new CTS-V than you would if you were to buy an 05-06 E55 at this time. I say a nice low milage E55 is the way to go.

I would just go for a new E63. They are freaking awesome. You get a nice big warranty and 507HP is not too bad lol

The E55 is very different from the 545i. The BMW is a relatively fast and very stable, comfortable road car that keeps up with S4's, and porsche 996 carreras, but the AMG is more luxurious and a LOT faster. You can keep up with POrsche 996 turbos, E60 M5's and almost any car around even today. The airmatic suspension gives you what you want, comfy on uneven roads or super harsh when you want to enjoy the smooth highway. The consumption will be higher. As to the comparison to the CTS-V. Top Gear really said that this car is pretty good, but you have to like American cars. I personally dont like the Cadillacs looks, but the E-class is getting older too. You wont be disappointed with any choice.

Here are top gears thoughts:

No your right mine was a 06. But still the quality of a Cady cant really compare to a MB. I know the new one is much nicer but that much??

If you're ever in the area of a Cadillac dealership, why not just stop and take a look? Couldn't hurt.
