Nav-TV Remote Start

well they told me it was preliminary pricing. top of the line 2 way paging autopage is about 500-600 installed. keep i mind you CAN NOT install auto page or DEI product on a W211 platform.....because of the stock security system and the way the keys are. i have been trying to get remote start ever since i bought this car and no-one would touch it and i have a lot of friends in the business. i will get pricing from nav-tv when i fill out the dealer application......but 1000-1200 installed is what Bob told me over the phone today !
Oh that makes sense! I didn't think about the complicated security on these things. I guess $1K isn't that bad when you think of it that way. I'm just glad my daily driver Jeep has this so I don't need it on the Merc.

combination of laser keys and can bus made remote start nearly impossible until these two companies came out. previously i was told the only way to do it was to get a 2nd key ring and leave a 2nd key in there all the time. 1k installed is high but we do not know HOW labour intensive it is. hopefully i'll be able to do a group buy the 650 range

I spoke to MidCityEngineering yesterday. Their system is 100% plug & play (no wiring). For $1000, i would have people lining up for these. If you had winters like we do, you would understand.
It's not ridiculous to spend $600 for a piece of carbon fibre or $4000 for rims, why is $1000 too much to save your frozen *** hundreds of times per year?

i'll try to get a group buy in a 650$ range. i doubt it will be possible for less with the nav-tv unit. i am curiosu on pricing of the engineer one - i dont think theirs is ready for the W211 though

I am more interested in the Mid City one....
The Nav-TV one as far as I can tell turns the car off when you unlock the doors with the remote. The other one seems to keep the car running when you do this...
What do you all think?

I'm down with a group buy. I like the engineering one more though. It seems to have better features and seems more polished and complete. Especially with the plug and play, that's great for install and resale!!!! How many would be interested in a group buy with them? If I get a good count I'll get in touch and see what we can work out. I'm guessing this will be for the w211.

re: Pricing
While I certainly applaud both of these companies for bringing this new product to market, I could NEVER in a million years justify spending $1K+ on something like this. I'm guessing the patent disclosure documents will show less than $20 in parts. If these units truly are plug-and-play, next-to-zero install, I think something in the $600 range would be much more palatable. Either way, big thumbs up for both company's ingenuity.

Speaking of wasting $1K overpriced options, I noticed that the E55 I looked at the other day had the $1K electric trunk lock option. Talk about an overpriced option! I wouldn't pay $100 for the electric trunk lock.

Cool/Heat Effect
I wrote them and asked if they could make the option smarter, to read the temperature and act accordingly, IE: below 45-F, heat the seats and such // above 75-F cool the seats. It's just software, they could take this to a whole other level, maybe having a page where you custom what you want the car to do... When its cold, I want to remote start and have it heat the car, but I want it to let me know it IS heating the car and has read that it is cold, so I want it to flash the fog lights. The car has a cooling mode, where it cracks the windows, sunroof and cools the seats and all that, I just hold the door with my keyless, I am pretty sure you can do it w/o keyless...

Great work, I down for for a Group buy. 600 to 700 would be great.

If anyone has any luck getting pricing from these guys, let me know.
Apparently, www.automobilitydistribution.com is the Canadian distributor for the Mid-City Engineering Products, but the guy i got on the phone knew nothing of it.
Eric at Mid-City told me that they are shipping orders out already.
So these products are on their way to distributors, but they don't have pricing yet?

650-700$ group buy of 10 should be feasible.
