Somebody just PMed me a very good point that I think many of us have been overlooking.....

We don't actually need to do a private track rental at Sacramento..... almost all their open test n tune sessions are low volume. Come to think of it, I've never been there and found more than 50 people..... This means that we can just pick any date out of their open test n tune nights and head out there whenever you guys decide to..... this will also save us A LOT OF MONEY that was going to get spent on making the event "private".

That sounds cool too Mo. What about track prep? From my experience, its been hit or miss. Sometimes its hooks good, other times it felt like they switched out the vht for some 10w30. Good god that is a 6 hour drive!

Would prefer a private rental, much more flexibility and control, Famoso at night keeps sounding better and better...

They do night time test and N tunes all the time, it is probably a bit of an exaggeration.

LOL.... If I haven't been there myself to actually witness that, I would've said that you were over exaggerating but you're absolutely right.... you may as well be launching on ice But seriously, sometimes that track is prepped okay and sometimes it's way off..... we can always just go to an open test n tune then talk to someone up there for re-spraying extra VHT and maybe paying them to do so (I'm not sure what their reaction will be though)

blueknight might be heading up there this Saturday along with Hotrod, we'll see how they do.

Mo, anytime you feel the urge to come up let me know...I'll be there in a heartbeat buddy. Like you said, $50 bucks to run your car all day long. Both times I've gone there was little or no line the whole day, hot lapper paradise. Just something to chew on.

It would be great if we could do our next meet at Sac. I just wouldn't want a bad day to happen again due to lack of track prep. Yes I agree it's a hit or miss! I am hoping things have changed since that disaster day back in Dec 07. On the positive both bassn_07 & I ran and set record times for our cars with street tires (I ran stock Cont's and 20's up front) about 3 weeks ago. No one complained about the track prep and the DA was excellent. I was also very surprised there might have been maybe 15-20 cars at the most all day, never had to wait in line to run. I might head up on Sat. just torn as there is a Meet & Greet in Berkeley of about 150-200 cars.

Great idea Brad, is there a link to the event on the 19th?

Come one guys this will be a great time..

Sorry I won't be able to make it until later this year. I have too many bracket races this season especially in February. I'm going after my Wally at our Nationals. Hope you all have great weather and break some more records.

Tracks Updates.....

Hey guys, I got a couple of updates here that may make our decision easier:

- The Fontana date date (sunday, February 21st) is no longer available..... also, they are booked up in March as well. This leaves April and beyond, which is pretty safe to say will be way too hot.

- Sacramento Raceway is available almost any day we pick We will pay close to $2k for additional VHT + Track prep + ambulance, but price still comes out slightly cheaper than Famoso but I'm just not sure how good track prep will be up there....

What do you guys think?

Which 5 voted on Sacramento? Who ever you are pm if interested in meeting up there, I'm open most Saturdays unless the family and I have plans. Maybe we could head up there and hit some great times to convince more to come.

keep in mind that if anyone plans to run 11.49 or quicker, then we will need a private rental. now if you can guarantee me that my first pass will be perfect i won't care. although i'm not sure if i'd believe you anymore since famoso was almost 30degrees warmer than promised.

btw, what's night time weather "supposed" to be like in late feb?

Mikey, you have to come man..... You now hold the West Coast Record for the Quickest/Fastest E63

By the way, even if we rent the track privately at Sacramento + additional VHT prep, it comes out a little cheaper than Famoso.... Also, Sacramento guys were willing to deal more than Famoso guys were and had a much more flexible schedules. The only thing that worries me is just how good will traction be even after the "improved traction" request.

I'm planning on going up there this weekend, if it doesn't rain! It was 20% chance, now its up to 30% chance. I would hate to drive most of the 800 mile trip only to find out its cancelled! Traction is hit or miss. However, last time I went up there I think my best 60ft time (1.750) was just as good or better than Famoso on a weekend event I went to in December. If I dont get 11.8x at 118mph, I will be disappointed. 11.84 is what I need to break the record by the Vishnu 335i cust (at that same track). I ran a 12.06 at 116.50 mph last time. However thanks to the information on his undisclosed seat, interior removal/lightening, I will do the same this time! Hence, I am hoping to break his 117.6 mph trap speed also.

I can't believe he beat my trap speed in my tune only sedan by .06 mph. And that is with his 400ft better DA, his downpipes, exhaust sys, intercooler, intake, better MS109 fuel, and seat removal! Think that would have gave him at least that .06mph advantage?? Well, we will see as I level the playing field with the same mods. Bet I will match his traps with my first time doing any weight removal. The big plus is that I have the new tires that Terry was cutting 1.6x-1.7x 60ft times on, and I will have better fuel. Thats half the fun in drag racing, the stratagy, the planning, and fulfilling your goals and projections!

i'd love to make it...however sac is just too far for me. i have family in the bay area and visit somewhat regularly, but unfortunately without the car. if the event gets scheduled up there and it happens to coincide with a trip, i'll definitely show my face.

Sacramento probably is too far for everyone, seems most people like the Famoso at night option.

Yes Fontana is terrible.
It runs uphill
Usually has a headwind
It is 1100ft elevation

The Mitsu Evo, Subies, etc were running like 14.9 sec ETs there.

Seriously, I ran a 12.1x @ 117.1 mph at Famoso. Then I went to Sacramento and ran my 11.99 at 117.54. So you would probably hit 11's at Sacramento also.

I think the track is good as well as the prep. The weather, wind, uphill , is all true. Usually 2x the DA as Famoso and 3x that of SAC.

Maybe Infineon 15 ft elevation and wow that place is in an incredible area, amenities etc..SanFrancisco, the track is right at water level. There is a Stadium, a restaurant, an oval, a road course, etc..

Wonder what that would cost , hehe

Last time I checked, they told me the track needs to be rented at least a year in advance...... that's when I said: peace

Infineon is right up by Napa which is cool. But instead of a drag day it would turn into a sort of mini vacation, as in much > cost vs. Famoso.

Hotrod,

I'm hoping the weather holds up for both you and Blueknight. Well crap, come to think of it I might even head over there. I've only been there twice and both times traction seemed fair but the low DA made up for it. It only takes that one good run to make the whole day worth while....

I really wanted to wait to get my cooling mods done but I think I could squeeze one more track day without it .

Do it.... your car will definitely go faster now that you're off the street tires. The weather in Sacramento is awesome, and you may not need the cooling mod this weekend at all I usually have a few things to take care of on the weekends, but I'll try my best to join you guys

I'm in for another event at Famoso if you guys do it on Feb 20th. My car is still in SoCal at Evosport getting some more work done to it. I'll be running Willow on the 19th of February so the 20th will work well. Keep me posted.

According to accuweather, it is supposed to rain right when they open up at noon! ARRRGH! I wrote to the track and asked it that automatically means a cancellation, or if they have track drying equipment. I'm really apprehensive about making the 800 mile trip if it is going to get rained out.
