Racing From a Roll
I was wondering if there is any difference between just flooring the pedal to kickdown and holding the shift paddle to get into the lowest gear when racing from a roll.
I've heard some people saying to hold the paddle and it'll choose the optimum gear for the speed you are going, but then I've heard people say to go to the lowest gear possible.
Also, sometimes it seems like when I ease into the throttle when the car is in D it feels faster then when I just push down the pedal all the way.
Sometimes when I am completely off the throttle and then go WOT, the RPMs just climb w/o downshifting. However, if I ease onto the pedal it will downshift. Normal? I have done the "sneaky ecu reset" also.
btw, I'm also using a sprint booster.
Thanks

The reason I would guess you feel this way is because the peak torque curve is lower. Our cars make mad torque at around 2-2 1/2 K rpm, so down shifting will "feel" slower. Think of torque being a sprint, and horsepower being a marathon. Also you have a Sprint Booster so it feels like you're giving it half throttle when actually the S.B. is making it almost full throttle. Feels crazy for the driver but the same for the passenger. I still say 12 seconds flat with a S.B. is still a STOCK car....(PERIOD) I'll run 11's WITHOUT THE S.B. and K&N REPLACEMENT filters this spring!

Yes, with these being torquey engines down low, they don't feel the same as something that revs high. One example is with two different sport bikes I had... one being a 599cc inline 4 cyl, which revved to 13k rpm and the power would continue to build and build up until you bounced off of the rev limiter. But my other bike, a 649cc V-twin 2 cyl, had all of it's torque down low, like a muscle car, only revved to 10,500, and anything past 7500-8000 rpm, the engine would run out of breathing ability, feel like less power, and you would feel that you're shifting back into the powerband by upshifting. And that was a sporty high revving twin; most twins are on cruisers opposed to sport bikes. I would say the 55 AMG engine feels more like the latter of the two.
Am I wrong? Should I just peg it out in M from second and let the trans shift b/c it hits redline?
Thanks,

i downshifted to 2nd gear in S mode... around 40mph, steps on the gas and shifts, when the rpm gets up, itll shift to the next gear by itself even though it already says 3rd gear, and results... i pulled on him strong, 2nd is definitely the strongest gear, you'll get the jump on people
