2004 E55

HELP - Cats blown

W211 E55 AMG Motorshut down the other day felt like it dropped a bank , no fault codes have shown up . Dealer tells me that the cats are worn out and that they are 6 to 9k is this correct and would a aftermarket system work . Would that have if any an effect on the performance or smog systems. Also would it increase the sound . Any help would be hugely welcome.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure that the manufacturer has to replace them free of charge unless the car is over a certain mileage, if you have warranty or not. Not sure of the mileage though.

That's what I thought, thanks for the clarification.

So unless you have over 80k miles on your ride, they've gotta take care of you.

Even if you did have to pay for it out of pocket, that sounds like a crazy price. I may be wrong though.

$600 for Random Technology hi flow cats, I have them and have no check engine lights. They also made power on the dyno.
