Smart call on the bet. It's a race with my buddy Alex (Vralexander). I think he's bringing his Supra as well as his slow CGT.
I'm super bummed, he said my car will do around 180 based on the weight and HP. Why ship a car out of state for that?

I think I might just go watch now? He said they are doing some sort of combo race before hand. It includes track, road, and 1/4 I think? I can get you info? No bet is involved....just good people and fast cars!

Yeah...real slow...

Jim:

Glad to see that you didn't turn this into another ugly chapter.

Are you doing anything special aerodynamically to the BS. I would imagine at 200+mph the wind is your biggest enemy.

I would have to assume your car is good for more than 180mph, your car makes a lot more hp than a stock Black Series and is not too much heavier and I was able to hit the speed limiter on my car several times with relative ease while in stock trim. I read a de-limited Black Series in stock tune ran 310 kmph (193mph) in Europe.

You should bring your car, there's only one way to find out. Get it as low as you can and mash the pedal to the floor!

I'm just going to lower the car as much as possbile and soften up the rear compression and slow rebound to try to keep the rear lip spoiler out of the wind as much as possible...and probably remove rear view mirrors.

I am sure her car can hit well above 180mph...the problem is hitting that speed within a mile from a standing start.

Hopfully the launch area is going to be somewhat well prepped with VHT and lots of rubber, I'm sure as the event progresses through the weekend the launch pad will improve. I plan on spraying as well, just waiting to hear from an expert as to how long I can safely spray and up to what speeds. Hopefully they will say I can spray the entire way

Are you running drag radials? I was always curious about what speed rating drag radials are rated for speed wise.

For you guys running, you might want to check out this article by Tire Rack on increasing the tire pressure for high speed runs:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=72

Not sure how to balance that out by trying to deflate the tires for a good launch.

Was VRAlexander's Gt on supercars exposed or was that another gt with yellow calipers and rims?

No, I am running the Corsa's at about 30 psi, the hook pretty well and have sidewall stiffness and speed rating I need.

I have no doubt my car can run 200+ but Alex is right, mathmatically I can't reach it without NOS before the mile is up. He has run the mile and speaks from experience. It was a sad phone call! He wasn't talking me out of it, he didn't want me to get disapointed.

Dunno? He has so many exotics it's hard to say. I know his car was on that show. I can't wait to see him try and beat his record at the mile. He ran 212 with his GT and 207 with his Supra last year. He is a great driver and his Supra is over 1000hp I think and he only ran 207 before the mile ended.

Good point, I never really paid attention to the amount of real estate I used up on my 206mph run. Seeing that it was a very slightly uphill run I'm sure I used more than a mile.

I seem to remember a Top Gear episode where they did the mile at the salt flats. A Challenger, CTS-V, and Z06 (Maybe ZR1? Can't recall). They mentioned the salt flats slowed them down considerably, but the Challenger did 140+, CTS-V was 150+, and Corvette was 160+ if I remember.

Basically any car that can do the mile in 200+ is supposed to be very stout.

Good luck to you guys.

This was Road & Track's test a couple of years back on cracking the 200mph with a Bugatti Veyron, Ruf Rt12, Hennessey Viper, Ligenfelter Corvette, Murcielago and SLR. They have the 1mile acceleration times/speeds on the last page. Interesting to note that the Murcielago and SLR couldn't crack 200mph on that day.

yep the ZR1 got 176 mph on the salt flats. The record holder for a street car at the texas mile is a Supra from Az i tihnk.

Sometimes I'm amazed at how terrible the drivers at these magazines are. They could only manage a quarter mile time of 12.3 out of the Vette even though it trapped 136 mph! Obviously they got a great time out of the Veyron; I can only imagine that it's easier to drive down the 1/4.

I think alot of that has to do with the Veyron's AWD making it pretty simple to launch. I agree the 12.3 @ 136mph is a joke...but they probably layed a 300ft strip of rubber along the way...

Very true. I'm just a little shocked at it all. I think it's safe to say that in general, a Viper is a lot harder to drive well than a Vette, yet they took a MONSTER of a Viper with a trap of 147 and drove it like champs.

Maybe this answers that point...the Viper was on BFG drag radials and the Vette was running Michelin Pilot Sports.

Trying to keep this on topic...maybe it is best to still go with drag radials for the Texas Mile.... it seemed to help the Viper above...

...random thoughts...

The runway is not used for anything else during the year that I know of. The surface is cement for the most part and is very gritty ( rub your foot back and forth it feels like a layer of sand )

In the past ( I have been to every event since the beginning ) they have not done much with the launching area other than let you do burnouts. I suggested they bring a sweeper for the entire mile, but I'm not paying for it.. LOL

A mile seems like a long way, but many 1st timers are supprised when they do not max out. 1,2,3,4th gears come really quick, but 5th and maybe 6th take forever!

If you are planning on going down, driving all the way from Cali, make sure you have room(s) soon. Goliad and Beeville book up pretty quickly. I may have a room or two extra if someone needs one. PM me and I will give you the rezo info.

I cannot recall a MB ever making the run and to have a C63 or CLK Black come out will make it interesting. I would love to bring a 2008 S65 with the limiter removed..

I am no VRAlexander, know who he is , but I am willing to help out if anyone from out of state needs it.

Good Luck to everyone making the trip out!

Let me pose this question to you guys...and girls. At the drag strip when we don't hook up it usually results in a higher trap speed, right? I have a time slip with a 1.90 60' but I trapped at over 130mph. My question is will I get more mph at the Texas Mile with a worse launch? Should I try to spin my tires a little more? The physics behind this really have me confused any help or insight would be appreciated.

I can tell you pretty much everyone spins off the line, IMO the sooner you start putting the power to the ground, the higher your speed will be at the end of the mile. They are not measuring time, simply speed through the traps...

I tried trac control on and off, on gave me higher speeds in the end in the car(s) The bike was all throttle control...

Maybe bring out a broom and have one of your support persons sweep off 10-20' and use some VHT ?
