Curious whether you chose to go with the 2.5" or the 3" on the '03? I remember someone saying in a recent thread that It was best to open the exhaust as much as possible on a supercharged engine. The only reason I originally ordered the 2.5" was because I wasn't sure how much fabrication would be involved in order to get the 3" to fit.

I ordered the 3". Id rather spend a little more money in fabrication to get a better sound and more power..

maybe in theory yes...in practice, it's not always the case.

MUCH better to replace resonator for following reasons,,

midway in exhaust so allows exhaust to build up speed, to smooth it out

by ditching the factory resonator, and putting X-pipe in
you save 37 lbs right there..

they put bullet high flow single resonators on each pipe after the X-pipe about 1/2 way to mufflers from X-pipe which will be better than
factory resonator, do same thing individually on each pipe, are high flow
so wont hurt performance unlike the factory one,
and they reduce the sound reflection and resonance, and drone.
refining the sound...

if you still want to ditch your 2nd cats,, you can replace them with a midpipe 3" like VADIM's solution..

they for perfect sound, the remus mufflers at the end, and it will sound like a german orchestra,, lol

way I did mine, and it sounds much better than AMG stock, or some aftermarket hack jobs..

Are you serious? the factory resonator outweighs a magnaflow x-pipe by 37 lbs. That makes makes this mod totally worth the 200 bucks it costs alone, plus you get improved sound and maybe a couple HP. This is awesome, I'm really excited to get my X-pipe installed now.

Just browsing this thread as we are putting together a full exhaust for a customer. We are now carrying the X-pipes as well as all the Magnaflow goodies.

Price should be 95.00 Shipped for the 3"x14"

Do you find any problems fitting that X-Pipe? Someone here with a 2003 E55 said it would not fit....and VRP mentioned it does not fit correctly either.

EXACTLY,, and the AMG mufflers weight some 45 lbs too, wheras the remus are like under 10..

and if you do the Stainless steel 304 tubing that is a slightly thinner gauge cause its stronger, than the OEM piping
thats another 20 lbs saved

how I have shed some 225 lbs off my car, that and some CARBON fiber panels

IF you do a custom proper CAT back exhaust, then they bend with mandrel
machine the pipes slightly to accomadate the X_pipe in AMG mercs if they 1/2 way know what they are doing. lol

what I had done,,. works fine and I have the MAGNAFLOW TRU X
if you just want a easy resonator switch with no piping done, at all
if may not fit

totally worth doing at least pipeing before and after X_pipe so you can
accomadate it

I'm not trying to call you out or start drama but it WILL fit and it has been done, and is on my car for months now. I just don't want someone to read this and end up shying away from the magnaflow unit.

The whole exhaust from the block back is pretty much being replaced, so I'm pretty sure we can get it to fit.

Did you replace the secondary cats with straight pipes at the same time?

No sir. At the time, all I had done was the removal of the resonator and the install of the Magnaflow X in it's place.
