Getting rid of the front plate

My car came with the front plate installed and I can't stand the look. Does anyone know how much a body shop will typically charge to fill the drilled holes and repaint the bumper? Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking the body work would come in cheaper then my deductible...

i went to bumperplugs.com and got color matched plugs for like $30 - check it before filling and repainting.

Bumper Plugs?

Or actually you can just go to home depot and get blank hold plugs and spray them yourself if you'd like a less expensive option. It's not a perfect solution but looks much better than the alternative.

i'd say around $100-$150 if you want a spot fix.

If you goto your local Mercedes Benz Service dept I think they do that for free... They do it here in San Jose, California <-- that's for installing licenses plate.

They wouldn't. It would be like an automatic replacement. If you really want to repair it get it done the correct way.

If not and you want the cheap way out you might want is get a some cheap material (ie. plastic, rubber... etc) inserts tape/glue it in front behind. Or even do it yourself. Apply some body filler, do the prepping work, and do it yourself.

As far as cost depends on your location. Where are you located. Body shop labor varies by location and on body, refinish, etc...

+1... good enough for me And I spent like $1.5 per pair. Smaller than bumperplugs.com... and you still have some flexibilities re-installing your plates if *knock*knock* you get a fix-it ticket

Pardon the dust on the grill and the mess

I paid $400 to get my entire front bumper sanded, to get the rock chips out, and repainted, and while they were at it, they plugged up the license plate holes....

Oh I got it done the cheap way: my wife rear ended a Honda CRV on the Henry Hudson Pkwy in Manhattan when the car was only 3 months old, which necessitated the replacement of the front bumper - so the MB dealer body shop left the plate and mounting bracket in the trunk of the car in case I ever got stopped (haven't yet...knock on wood) and threw in a new hood with the repair!

NJ state legislature is supposedly considering the repeal of the front plate requirement, but haven't gotten the final word.

I've received several positive comments from MB and non-MB owners who've said the remodeled W211 front end with the 'beak' looks better without the front plate mount.
