better handling and braking for me.. when I did the upgrade.

I increase my width and height going to the 19's.

The look is way better.. eventhough my offset is just a bit off. My rears stick out just a hair out.

But most people never understand offsets.. they just say they look good.

there are 2 sizes for the E55 AMG wheels

one set is wider than the other by 0.5" front and rear.

8 front 9 rear

and the other one ( which mainly wu wull find it for the CLS)
8.5 front 9 rear

all are 18"

ZOD,

what is the tyre size that you are runing on your front wheels which are 8.5" in width !?

you van check this web site for all the info about AMG wheels, size, which car to fit, part number, etc

CLS55 AMG
I love my 20's. I don't plan to do much racing to and from the grocery store. The minimal loss of performance can take a back seat to outlandish good looks.

id like to try and see how much faster the car would be on a smaller and lighter rim though
The Canadian 2006 CLS55 came with 19s as standard equipment, but you could choose the 18s as an option.

I am thinking about going with 20's, still keeping the staggered setup (20 x 8.5's in front and 20 x 10's in back; tires will be 245/30/20 and 275/30/20). How will the 20's affect the performance on my Beast? I know that it should handle a little better, right? How about straight line speed though? Will it really slow me down? (FYI - I am currently running with a Kleemann K2 kit, so it's a little faster than stock ) I know many of you have made this change and I want to hear some feedback before I make my decision. Thanks so much!

If you do decide to go with 20" over 19", you should be running 245/30/20 and 285/25/20 to get the correct diameter. I had 19s first, but sold them after a month to get the same wheel in 20" because they looked too small for my liking.

I was hesitant to ride on 25 series rubber with the 20s, but they ride pretty good & you cannot beat the way they look on the car. There is what i would call a minimal performance difference when stepping up to 20s, but i think i'll just get a pulley/tune & be faster than stock on my 20 inch bling.

I agree with you, you can do 20s right and have almost no loss in performance.

I have the right size tires that didn't increase the overall diameter, hence the argument about the worse gearing is gone.

We compared the weight of the stock rims & tires to the 20s and the stock ones were slightly heavier (the p30 rims are heavier than the standard E63 rims), hence the increased weight problem is non-existent.

Regarding the ride, it really didn't change much to my surprise. Regarding handling, 18s and 19s are better. I don't speed much around turns anymore because I don't want to run into a pothole or expansion joint when the outside wheels are under load.

I think the cost of 20 inch tires and the possibility of bending a rim is outweighed by having the perfectly sized rims to fill up the fender of the W211.

What I would do is have a set of 20s for everyday driving and a stock set of 18s with performance tires for track days.
