HEY GOOD NEWS YOBI!!
Just heard back from my dealer. I am double checking on this right now but he claims you can snag a piston and rod separate now.
Will respost if he replys that he was wrong.
Otherwise here ya go.
Hey Jim,
You can get a single piston and rod from Benz on the 211.076. The prices are as follows:
Piston p/n: A 113 030 15 17 Retail: $660.00 (Standard size)
Piston p/n: A 113 030 17 17 Retail: $785.00 (Repair Size 97.25 mm)
ConRod p/n: A 113 030 04 20 Retail: $320.00
Bearing p/n: A 113 030 01 60 Retail: $37.00

This is great! Thanks man.
I would say I still need to disassemble the whole motor and balance the assembly to the new piston.

I highly doubt you will need to do any extra balancing on a set of stock pistons. It's not like your are changing them out to an aftermarket ones. The motors come high speed balanced from the factory.
Only question is, how does the cylinder walls look? Only certain types of machine shops have the tooling to bore and hone aluminum lined cylinders.

Unless they have changed it since they are now selling refurbs only. You will need an entire bottom end kit from AMG. Last check.....get ready...it was around 20K.
Again unless they changed everything, AMG won't sell you a piston and rod. Need all 8 with crank.
BEFORE you go doing something like that, check around for used AMG engines. A few floating around. One just sold that was on Ebay for years for around 10-12K.
Keep your chin up though. At least have someone pop the head and take a peek in or have it scoped.
Keep us updated.

I have seen this rumor spread around before but I have seen otherwise with my own eyes.

This is MB we're talking about...nothing is cheap, just varying degrees of expensive. This is still a major improvement over the previous alternative, which was bending over at the parts counter to the tune of $20k...

Yobi,
I really am sorry to hear about your situation, that is rough man. I hope at least some other prospective buyers can learn from this and not scoff when people on here recommend extended warranties!!! **** HAPPENS and it's not fun to have a big problem on a $100k benz without a warranty!!!
I think there are some good indy shops by you that may be able to help you if you get an extended warranty done. The one problem with the DC warranty everyone recommends is that DC requires you to take it to a Benz dealership. Hopefully if that's what you do, you have an EXCELLENT SA and TECH whom you take out for a nice steak dinner so they can take care of you.
Not to make an echo, and without going into details, rebuilding a block with Nikasil coated cylinder liners, and all kinds of other modern marvels is not going to be cheap or easy.
I don't want you to think I'm doing the old "I told you so" - I'm not vengeful, but the truth is your bad experience can help others avoid a similar situation... trying to make the most out of a ****ty scenario really.

You can replace just one piston if the cylinder wall is not damaged. I did that last month:

btw, the compression on the piston with a broken ring land was 92 psi. It jumped up to 145psi with the addition of oil. You can also do a leakdown test to see where it is leaking...

I sold the Car. This car had a chip welded to the computer. After the inspection it also looks like the other head had been removed. This car has signs of abuse all over after all. I sad since it only had 45k miles.
So I decided to sell it and move on with my losses.

I couldn't find a nice E55 to save my life. All the ones I looked at had been abused, or were just generally in crap condition.
I came to the conclusion that the best place to get one is from on here. Most of these guys are **** about their cars, and they will be in good condition.
Better luck next time!

So sorry Yobi!!
We are starting to find this popping up a lot more as time passes on these cars.
Many guys patching them up and ditching them to unsuspecting victims instead of paying the repair.
It really is an awesome car and you would have loved it (had you got one that actually WORKED). Bet you are a bit soured on AMG at this point.

Am I sour at AMG (no). At the dealer that sold me a hacked car yes. I think even if I would have got a warranty they would not have covered. I could have dealt with anything else on the car. The only thing I needed was a strong motor. That is why I went out of my way to find a lower mileage car. I got screwed by no fault of AMG. Do I think these cars aren't for everyone, sure.
