First of all, my first impression is that if you can ever get your hands on a 65 please do...the thrust of the turbos is downright scary. My modded 55 is similar but is much louder. I think my stock SL65 and my modded 55 would be neck and neck.
You can not beat the rush of the open air and the thrust of the turbos. Thank you God.
The Modding List:
Cosmetic Exterior (starts next week):
1. Front Grill: Replace with 3 slat grill but with matte finish and gloss black detail (i.e. parts that were chrome like star will be gloss black).
2. Hood Emblem: MB star replaced by AMG Affalterbach emblem.
3. Headlights: Taken apart and interior painted black and exterior covered with 30% protective tint.
4. Foglights: HID conversion
5. Driving lights: change bulbs to brighter white vs. yellowish hue
6. Stone protection: Front bumper, full hood, front quarter panels, headlights, and fog lights will be covered by protective film
7. Window tint
8. Upgraded wheels and tires: Front (19 x 9 w/ 255 width), Rear (20x 11 w/ 305 width)...center painted gunmetal with polished lip.
9. Orange Reflectors: Painted body color
10. All fin trim: from silver finish to matte finish
11. All badging: from polished to satin black
12. Third brake light: tinted darker
13. Tail lights: They look as is and will help with red brake caliper accent
14. Brake calipers: painted Ferrari red
15. Side mirror: clear portion will be tinted
16. Exhaust tips: no change to match accent of polished lip of wheels
Interior:
1. DTM steering wheel
Performance (mid to late April):
1. VRP825
2. Renntech Toe Links
3. Modified exhaust
4. Lowering module (undecided on which one)
Audio/Visual (late April/early May): Still in planning stages...but it will rock.

Awesome! I love it too....Wait till you try driving @ night top down no tunes except engine noise, when safe look up @ night sky totally cool
BTW you've gotta add this mod changes your hand key programing to drop the top 50+ ft away from car before starting, also enables top raisig/lowering @ safe speed of your choice(stock it shuts off anything over about 5mph)
here's link just ordered mine best $300 mod yet

I would've done the same if I did not just have a baby. Hard to resist in getting a 65 looking at the price right now. S and CL seem to be too big for me.
Have fun & be safe!

Excellent!! Did you go private party or dealer? Care to share your great deal in regards to price?
Mod list looks great but I am wondering a little more about the 19 inch fronts and 20 inch rears- very ZR1'ish... any reason why? I seen many a SL65 with modded wheels but not one with with staggered diameters.
The lowering module must be Renntech- its clearly the best with the biggest option for drop distance and ease of adjustment. I had the Carlsson on my CL65 and sold it to get the Renntech.

I too would like to know what kind of deal you got. If you don't feel comfortable posting it here, would you please PM me ? SUmmer is almost here in SoCal and I've been looking at getting an SL55 for a while. But, if I could find a low mileage SL65 I'd rather have that, of course.... Thanks in advance...

I knew I wasn't the only one that liked to hang out in the garage! People thought I was weird for having a TV and some chairs in the garage.

On top of that, I'd also have a custom car wash area set up complete with a foam gun and a blower. I'm getting excited just thinking about it!
