Anyone Upgrade Sound System in a W211 E55?
#26
I too got the Reus system in my E63 from the great GB organized by Jangy I am relatively happy with it but I want a little more.
So I have been trying to get my hands on the AMG Performance Studio Audio Upgrade package E02 parts as it replaces all the speakers and adds a 700 amplifier that integrates nicely into the factory system. It also has a nice AMG tweeter housing for the front doors.

Looks like everyone is recommending JL Audio or Reus. One or the other I'm going to do in the very near future. Thanks Godfather for your input as well!

Luv my setup: 2 JL Audio 12" W10s in trunk in JL audio box, Alpine IVA-505 touch screen head unit, Focal tweeters and speakers up front, Alpine speakers in back, 2 Alpine Amps hidden in trunk, integrated ipod in armrest..... Hits hard, hits loud, but very clear and sounds good low too.... all done by La Jolla Audio in San Diego..... probably one of the best installation centers in the country Didn't come cheap tho, but if you want pics, check out my profile album... got a few on there

Love my setup as well. 1 Alpine type-x 12, 1000 watt RMS Alpine mono amp, Alpine type-x fronts, Alpine rears, Alpine 4-channel amp for the doors, Alpine Headunit.
I wouldn't say I'm brand exclusive as much as I enjoy one brand that offers a good performing product (although not necessarily the best) in every aspect of the car audio world.

Gents, want to bump this up for another question.
Can anyone show picures of where to get the Input source for the amp from the factory system and what you used to obtain that signal?
Also for you audio guys
JL W6v2 vs. JL W3v3
Obviously the W6v2 is a better unit but I'm somewhat inclined to think that the W3v3 with a 250/1 JL Slash amp would make for a cost effective solution that provides pleanty of bass for most of us.
Input on this?

I had a really inexpensive install done on my leased E55. Focal speakers dropped right in factory door openenings & a ported MDF box with 2 JL Audio12W6 subs in the trunk. All hooked directly to the COMAND no cutting, no BS.
I had the amps mounted on the back of the box to keep most of my trunk space and spare tire.
Overall, not a lot of money for super clean sound & killer bass. Search the forums for some really sick custom installations and ideas.
Front Focal 165K2P
Rear Focal 165KF
JL Audio 450/4 Amp
MDF box w/ 2 12W6V2 subs
JL Audio 1000/1 Amp

Sorry no pics but...i used an Monster cable hi/lo converter. Removed the mesh grill in the rear deck covering the stock sub. You will see two plugs on the stock sub one on either side. Pick one side and tap into the lines according to the instructions on the hi/lo converter. There is enough room and holes in the rear deck to pass the wires right through into the trunk. hope this helps

Just a word of advice...
1. Installer (get a good one who is meticulous and thorough)
2. More power is better (you can always ratchet down the gains)
3. Make sure is sounds good to you (everyone has a different "ear")

Since there is already a post here I'll try to ask my question right here:
I know that to get DVD playback I have to get the Euro version of the COMAND, but I want to know why my stock COMAND cannot be reloaded to play DVD's. If the stock (2004) COMAND is capable of reading DVD data discs, then it has all the necessary hardware to play movies, all it is lacking is software. Has anyone out there heard of, or considered investigating this?? A simple flash or firmware update or what-have-you could turn all of our COMAND's into DVD playing units. I have been into the engineering menu for my COMAND and the settings are there to enable/disable driver distractions with regards to DVD play, so we can't be that far off from DVD play as it stands right now.
Any thoughts???
