E55 vs CL55 few quick questions..

Stock vs stock which one is faster?

Which one handles better?

Which brakes better?

Doing a pulley swap on both with tuning.. which one is faster?

I know the CL weighs more and is longer.. but it has more hp stop (not much I know) so I am wondering how the 2 cars compare.

E63 AMG & CLK350
I'm not sure about the 55 models, but we have an E63 & a CLS 63 and I would say that stock vs. stock, the E63 performs better overall. I don't drive the CLS as often, though, so I guess I have a biased opinion.

The e55 will handle and perform better than the cl55 period.

Formula Mazda, Beast Junior...400HP 135i
First off, the E55 and CL55 have exactly the same power levels. Mercedes quoted lower output on the E55 for marketing purposes but in reality, every 55K motor is the same +/- a few HP due to intake and exhaust differences but nothing you could really feel.

The E55 is quicker, faster, better handling, and better braking due to the size and weight advantage that it had.

This aside, the CL55 is a gorgeous car that makes a very different statement.

2003 cl55 (sold)
Have 2003 CL55.... think that probably the e55 is faster, brakes better and all of that due to the weight difference. That being said, after doing some mods to the CL55, I luv the stupid thing and am glad I got it vs. the e55. Its huge up front and you have tons of room. I like the CL55 styling a bit more and I think its a style that is still far from dated..... and after tuning it is quick as hell and I doubt that there is a HUGE difference between either in acceleration when modded. Mine is pretty damn fast Beware of the ABC in the CL55... known to fail (it did on mine and cost $3500 to fix).

The 03 Kompressor CL55 weighs 4080lbs, the E55 weighs 4200lbs the CL also has bigger brakes. The CL55's were imported in limited numbers only 500 per year until 06 when only 300 were imported into the US. The suspention is similar only better tuned. I believe the popularity of the E55 has a lot to do with availability. The CL55 was slightly more luxurious in base form but with essentially the same options available. The CL55 had better performance features than the E55 and cost about $40k more.

The e55 weighs 3,990 lbs and 4,100 lbs with pano roof. A 2004 CL55 weighs 4,317 lbs. The abc suspension and the reinforcements they had to put on the roof to make it pillar-less are heavy. I drive an 03 CL55 and a E55 with the same mods is probably a bit faster but idc I am in a big pillar less coupe.
