Anyone buy a steering wheel from CKM Car Designs before?

Hi, guys - after seeing the steering wheel Alex Palmieri got from ckm car designs for his w211 e55, I decided to order one myself.

I'm starting to get a little worried though since it's been 3 months since my order and I don't have the wheel.

Chris from ckm has been quick to reply to my inquiries but hasn't given me any firm delivery date, etc. The wheel was supposed to take 5 weeks max.

I don't think I'm getting scammed but it's starting to feel like it.

Have any of you dealt with ckm before, especially related to a custom steering wheel?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I should have been clearer in my original post. I bought the wheel based on this video. Just frustrated and worried that it hasn't arrived in 3 months and was curious if anyone else had experience with this company

I'll update if/when it arrives.

+1 please update, I have been looking at these for a while but it is a pretty large chunk of change to get shafted over.

I did. It took 14 weeks. Was told 5 weeks max.

Here's the bigger issue:

The wiring was not correct and the airbag he sent didn't fit.

Took me a while to find a MB tech who was willing to fix the wiring issue for me. I had him install the wheel with the old airbag for now because that's a separate issue I need to address.

When I told Chris about this, his response was 'yea all the cars have different wiring' (untrue) and he told me to see the legit street car video for info on fixing the airbag issue

The construction of the wheel is nice. The electronics are jacked and the customer service is terrible.

I planned on installing this myself but incurred extra expense because of the mistakes CKM made that I couldn't fix.

sorry to hear it! The communication and explanation of details was terrible (and later significant increase of shipping costs) from Chris so I decided not to purchase from him/them. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The communication was confusing and terrible from the start (I will say he replies promptly to every inquiry) and that should have been a red flag for me. Good call on avoiding, imo.

I would strongly look at Ledermanz to build your wheel, they are probably one the best in Europe. I’m very happy with my purchase. All materials are high end, the stitching is nope notch. Everything was well designed, and I’m extremely pleased with my steering wheel. Also my wheel came with it's airbag, so no need to transfer that over. But it did come with plastic shift paddles covered in Alcantara, which we transferred over to the E63 paddles. I personally talked to Alex, and he had my wheel built and shipped within a week. After my first wheel disappeared at the DHL terminal in Chicago, and yes it was insured by Ledermanz. The price at that time was $750 plus $50 insured two-day express shipping.

This is my wheel, after Ledermanz completed it, I asked him to take photos before shipping it to me.

This is Eddie at Benz Elite Automotive, transferring over my aluminum shift paddles.

These are the Alcantara covered paddles, that I didn't use. My old steering wheel with OEM airbag and these paddles are still at the shop.

My Alcantara covered airbag.

Installed and looks good, this was before I got my Carbon Fiber Interior trim installed

The Mercedes Star was painted in a high gloss black.

The black of the wheel is also covered in Alcantara

This wheel stands out, and yes that is a CF instrument cluster.

Everyone that looks at my car talks about the wheel and the CF trim

Fully covered in Alcantara.

Even the Airbag is embossed into the Alcatara. Who does that.......Ledermanz does!!

Also they do the horns as well.

Ledermanz made a work of art, they can also make your steering wheel out of Carbon Fiber, Wood, Leather and Alcantara. And they make these steering wheels for other brands like Audi, Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and Mercedes. Check them out on Instagram.

2018 S63, lowered
I wanted to buy a matt black grill from CKM for my S63. Below is the email correspondence, and based on that alone I won’t be ordering one.

How companies expect customers to just pay them hundreds of dollars, wait 3-5-10 weeks for a part and hope it’s the correct one without giving them the ability to speak to a human amazes me. I literally need about 90 seconds on the phone with them. If you don’t have 90 seconds for me, the customer, I don’t have 13minutes of my time to type emails or $386 for you. Sorry, for a minute I thought you wanted a new customer. Why would you want that?

Hey. Next time contact Ledermanz aka grigul_design directly. As the Chris is a 3rd party who just resell the steering wheels.
Ledermanz would help with any instalation. There exist 2 types of wirings in earlier w211.
Thanks

I'll post again when it arrives, but I ordered a steering wheel from Ledermanz (off his ebay store) for my 2009 E63. It was supposed to arrive yesterday but their is/was a delay in Belgium, so not sure when it will arrive now as the shipping company does not update often.

But also, about 8 months ago I ordered an upgraded leather airbag cover and the work is very good. cant wait to get the matching wheel.

A little story time. The first steering wheel that I ordered from Ledermanz made it to the DHL ramp in Chicago, where it disappeared. Luckily it was insured, so Alek conducted a trace and After 10 days DHL was unable to locate it . So Alek returned from his vacation early and made my steering in 3 days, and I received it two days later thee DHL 2 day expedited shipping. When it arrived, it put a huge snail on my face.

Yes Im affraid I dont have the time to sit in the phone as much as I want and when I do its always occupied so then all then complained about that so better to answer it all on mail as fast as I can when I have the time. If I lose you as a customer is of course not good at all but thats just the way it is. I only have time for mail and barly that. I do my best to keep up.
