I have the new software so I wont void any warranty. Its just a stupid easy car to drive and while Im not remotely close to being a great driver, I have my moments and this car helps me enjoy those moments even more. I pray for red lights and no cars in front of me The great thing is once I do the engine mods (for relatively cheap) this car will be my fave for sure.
What new software? What does it do over the "old" software that keeps you from voiding your warranty?

Let me know, I'm looking for a GTR too

Very nice, but instead of the HKS kit, I would go with Switzer Performance 700hp kit with upgraded turbo's

IIRC, Nissan is doing a TCU "update" that removes (or greatly reduces?) the Launch Control functionality - but then you can drive it like you stole it w/o warranty repercussions. Vic55, is that accurate?

Yes it lowers the launch from 4500rpm down to 3000-3500 and YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TURN VDC OFF TO DO IT!!!!!!!!!! So no more warrenty issues. On my friends mid pipe and cobb tune car I ran 10.95 with a 1.72 60ft with this update. My stock car ran 11.52 -11.6 all day with 1.78-1.82 60fts.

Thanks for answering Fantasm's questions. I wish Fikse would chime in here, he has a GT-R with just the Cobb and custom tune for a total of 1400-1500 dollars. He ran 4 runs the other day and I think they were 11.01, 11.02, 11.04, and maybe 11.05 and all traps were 125'ish. He has the TCU upgrade too (came on models delivered after 02/2009 but prev owners can update too) which supposedly gives you faster shifts but allows you to launch at will with no warranty issues. The only change is the reduction of RPM's at launch.

looks amazing Vic.....

It got me thinking...I'll probably get one of these in a year or so.....Then I thought:

"what are the chances of getting one of these on the used car market that hasnt been completely abused??"

Im sure every owner 'launches" their GTR at every light(I would).....not to mention drvies the snot out of it.

what do you guys think?? used car yay or nay?????

With the recent price increase (my exact car now msrp's at 84k plus), I think the used market will pick up. A few months ago, the buy it now prices on Ebay for used ones was around 72k and nobody was biting. I think this can be attributed to the concerns about the tranny. My car has the updated software so there are no worries. Launch away!!!! The production of the 2010 model was also reduced I think to 1500 down about 1000 from the 2009 numbers. If you can get a used one that has the new software or an older version that has verfied no launches (black box check) you should be just fine.

More praise and even a small amount of hate for the new beast: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=258185

BTW, you need to put the GTR in the M6 space of buy a fourth sports car to fix your asymmetrical sig.

A red ZR1 would really make it symmetrical...

I can't believe the haters in that thread, saying the car is ugly and looks like crap. Those bimmer guys are douchebags and a half. They will bash anything without a BMW emblem, it's so predictable...

The thing I hated most about owning M's was dealing with the other owners at meets and online. A disproportionate number of them are really irritating...

Hey its the internet, people can say what they want. But the uninformed makes me laugh like the poster knocking the Potenzas which come with the car. There were some good comments too--- Rock why didnt you post my M6? Then the drool emoticons would have exploded for their beloved M car.

I have been driving the 6 for the last 3 days and today, it was the GT-R's turn- oh what a nice change!!

Awsome setup Vic!

How would you compare the stand still launch on this vs your older 55? Which one gives you the more "brutal" launch if you can still remember.

When you say older E55 you mean the W210? Remember I had a W211 as well.

"Brutal" is not what I would describe the GT-R- its more of a linear shot out of the hole but with much force.

"Brutal" is a the CL65 and my modded E55 (W211).

As for the W210- no comparo at all.

The more important question is which car(s) in your garage sets off the ladies of Cali vs. car fanboys.

I'm betting the M6 works on the ladies more and the GT-R is fanboy heaven out there. Personally, the P-car had me at hello.

I think you are right the M6 is that elegant beast that turns the heads. The Pcar is dated but red and black so there is appreciation and much rubber necking. The Nissan gets more of the inquisitive looks like: WTF is that...

Vagina rankings:

M6
997TT
GT-R

Looks in general:

997TT
M6
GT-R

Sorry i meant the moded W211. I know the older W210 wouldn't even stand a chance. Kind of gives me an idea though. Thanks.

These are guestimates since Ive never run myself:

From a dig to 150:

The 997TT would win with the GT-R and the M6 fighting for 2nd. The GT-R would pull out first with the 997TT right behind and then I feel the 997TT over 60 would move away. The M6 launches slower and doesnt shine until over 120 mph so it would make up ground much later.

Rollers (30-160):

The 997TT (modded) would take the GT-R and I feel the M6 would finish 2nd. The GT-R in stock format seems to slow down after 130 mph. Its like the oppo of the M6. Once the mods are done- Im afraid to see what the GT-R will do.

Are you getting the hks kit from sp or else where? I know the spi 700 kit is 18k which is a ton more then the hks kit. I know alex has posted some great numbers and sounds with the hks kit on his car.
