some paraniod question... i hit the rev limiter on the E63 yesterday...

Hi guys... just wondering how many of you out there who owns E63 have ever hit the rev limiter on the car??

stupid mistake, i was in M mode from a dig, about 3/4 throttle, thinking i was in S mode, forgot to shift to 2nd. So for the very first time, the car hits the rev limiter 3 times... sounds like this nguuung.. nguuung.. nguuung.. then i shift.

bad for the car??

Its not great for it, but I doubt hiting it 3 times would break it, or damage it in any serious way

No........ hitting the rev limiter a few times won't hurt your car. The limiter is actually set way below the actual maximum rpm limit, and is set there for this exact same reason: to prevent damage to your engine. You may have stressed your engine a little, but there shouldn't be any damage done at all

I often hit my rev limiter when missing the shift in M mode. Dont worry about it. As others have said its set low on purpose to prevent major damage. Just dont make it a major habit and you should be fine

That's what it's there for, you can bang it off the limiter as much as you want, unless you have a custom tune in which you have raised the rev limiter considerably, you are fine. I have honestly pegged the limiter on my car at least 50 times and my motor is fine, TC off, too much throttle and bam, the tires are up in smoke and then hello Mr. rev limiter. I just had my compression tested and it is still 175-180 across the board, those are close to factory new numbers, these motors are stout!

Jim your compression #'s amaze me yet really show us how bad *** the 63 motor is. Didn't you run N02 with a stock tune with no prob ?? I have hit my limiter many times and then some and I can honestly say that you are not going to damage a stock 63 motor with your right foot. Just save up for tires.

i have hit that rev limiter alot of times and the car is still going . ive hit the rev limiter mainly from tire spin , Its not like missing a shift were the rpms just fly up there .Now when u have a car with a stick and a blower then u are at a greater risk but with an automatic u will be fine . And u still got a warranty

motor seems durable because i beat the **** out of the car but i have busted 2 motor mounts and a transmission mount already before the car hits 24k miles and going for my 3rd set of rear tires today

As stated above, you can nguuung al day long and it will not cause any issues at all. The motor is not high strung and the rev limiter is set sufficiently low as to keep the engine well away from unsafe revs.
