E55 Purchase decision
I am looking to purchase a E55 from a dealership in Ft. Lauderdale. It is a 2003 E55 with 50k miles on it. The dealer is selling it to me for 20k. The contact I have been dealing with has been very upfront with me about the car. They said that it was misfiring and took it to a MB dealership to get inspected. The dealership said the car was misfiring in banks 7 and 8 because the previous owner had installed "overflow catalytic converters" on it. Have you guys heard of this? The dealer I have been dealing with said the car drove fine at times but then sometimes it would idle rough because of the misfiring. Could this be a serious issue or something as simple as putting the oem cats back on and maybe replacing the plugs.

i would stay away..keep saving and looking around. I wouldn't risk anything with a car like this. These cars are not cheap to fix. Not sure of your income but if you are stretching for 20K, you may be better off saving and buying lower mileage/newer car. just my .02 cents

Too much risk without a warranty on this one, a new short block is more than $20K.

Yeah, the strange thing is the dealer says it doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes the car drives perfectly fine, but then at times while it's idling it gets the misfires. I am most likely going to pass it up, but hate to think it's just fouled plugs.
