I'm wondering if it's that slight lag between the moment the pedal is floored and the car actually downshifts combined with a possible turbo lag, it may be enough to give a slight lead to the GT-R until the Merc picks up again

Vadim can post the list of mods that I have..

Off the top of my head, I have the Scorpion Intake, VRP ICs, slightly bigger cams, heads and intake port matched, VRP Tune, and some beefy parts in the tranny..

The rear turbos are off the table for now.. just wanted to get the beast in my hands, rather than have it be 1000 miles away during the spring thaw here in Utah..

I don't have the latest dyno numbers on my car.. the last one Vadim did it put down 604whp, but Vadim put Marko's 91octane tune on it after that dyno run, so I don't know exactly what the dyno numbers are... Vadim's guess is in the 620-640 range.

I do know that my car is not having any "problems" ie ICpumps etc..

My buddies car.. he definately babied it down low because of the tranny.. but I actually drove it, and that thing is definately more snappy than my car in the 30-80 mph range.. definately.. no doubt..

That's why I was so excited to get them side by side in the mid range..

When I was driving, my buddy wouldn't let me rev the S**t out if it and dump the clutch from a dig.. it just wasn't going to happen.. and he wasn't going to do that either.. but if he/I would have, he'd have pulled the SL big time..

I'd say after driving his car for about an hour, and playing for about an hour with him while driving my car, I'd have to say, that in the 1/4 both cars driven aggressively would be about neck and neck, based upon my butt dyno and driving both cars..

I also remember him telling me that he has put in a bunch of carbon fiber, and done some weight reduction stuff, and his weight w/o driver is 3100lbs..

He was running 285 - 18 PS2s..I don't remember the sidewall ratio..

Another funny thing, that was just kinda a side note.. as we were out screwing around on the interstate (In MEXICO of course) there was this Ferrari Testarossa that we passed.. he wouldn't have had a prayer, and he knew it.. so he stayed back and let the real boys play :-)

I have some pics of the cars sitting in my driveway, stills.. but neither one of us had a video camera with us.. sorry..

Too bad you can't make a few drag strip runs to get some baseline numbers.

Also when mine went south it was very noticeable the car will fall on it's face, if it's to the point of intermittent failure these runs above would never have unfolded like described, 1 hard run & the car would be roasting & unble to recover for such use...
When mine was starting to go south, it was just pulling the timing and, of course, majorly reducing the power. When the IAT's got waaay too high, it went into limp mode like you are describing. It's not unheard of to have a brand new pump that fails. I've heard from a few on this forum that had that exact scenario happen.

We'll be getting baseline dyno's then if budget allows & I can find a suitable rear drag/whl-tire I'll hit the 1/4 for baselines

ps..SICK 120+mph traps on your 335 (I read in C&D about the new 335TTD lil' bastad' is putting out 425 Torq stock tho bumped weight up to 3800lbs, still I'll be watching what bmw tuners come up withcould be a baddazzz sleepur)

If your up for frwy rolls I'm still down, but from a dig is pointless I just go-up in smoke or/and esp comes in kills power adds brakes.

I'm always down for digs against bmw's.

Btw something just doesn't sit right with the race. A 65 with that kind of power should humiliate the gtr in a rolling start, and most likely lose from a dig.

I just wanna thank LET for giving me a convenient excuse to get out of getting killed by that monster.

I was getting mods installed and dyno tuned.

Yeah, that was it. I was getting tuned so I couldn't make it....yeah, that's the ticket.

When you ran the GT-R from a roll, did you downshift manually before smashing the throttle?

He must have misquoted because the GT-R is almost 4000lbs and I dont know anyone who has or can drop 900 lbs in the car currently.

His car is an older GT-R Skyline.. He told me that it weighs 3100 lbs.. of course no way to confirm..

It did have the steering wheel on the wrong side.. :-)

Also, yes, the from a roll runs.. I had my Rs up high in the powerband, 3-4000 and was shifting at 6200..

From the dig, I just had it in Manual mode, and mashed the gas.

All I know is that the older they are the faster they are...no wonder he got walked....I bet the runner was not disclosing full details of his GT-R.

It is funny...all the "Old" Skylines on dragtimes either run 128mph+ or below 120mph trap speeds. It is kind of like either they run close to stock or highly modified...no in between.

Gents, gents!!!

Please give new new2this a bit of room. There are not many R32s, R33s, R34s or R35s where he lives.

We are spoiled here in SoCal.

In the end at 6500 ft. and running 91 gas, the car is fast.

There is more to come and I promise videos once it is done.

Thank you everyone for your support.

GT-R Specs

Ok Guys.. I didn't realize that there were that big of differences between the new GT-R and older ones, so I called my buddy today and asked him.. this time with a pen in my hand..

Here here we go..

His car is a 2002 Skyline GT-R, Japanese model, Left Hand drive..

It has the 2.6L Inline 6, 6 speed manual tranny.

He has a 3" exhaust system with a Cat delete

He has a custom tune, and currently running 100 octane gas

He is running 16psi of boost

He has upgraded the intercooler.

He has done a bunch of suspension mods..

He has dyno'd 450 whp.

His car's curb weight is 3250 lbs without driver.

Here in Salt Lake City, at 4500ft, he runs 11.6s at 126mph on street tires (PS2s) without hard launches.. 1.8, 1.9 60ft times

So you got whipped by a vintage car modded for $500 bucks in a shed?
Now line up against the new, STOCK R35 GT-R and he will absolutely annihilate you from a dig.
He will be 5 car lengths ahead before your rear wheels stop spinning.

Here is the key to equation...he traps 126 at 4500ft..., that thing is hauling....definitely the SL did not stand a chance as it weights in a wooping 600+ more.

No doubt that a GT-R is very very fast from a dig (with launch control). The fact is that a stock GT-R will trap around 120mph at sea-level. New2this's SL65 is putting down 600+rwhp. That is good for a 125+mph trap at sea-level. Out on the street, the GT-R will get the initial pull...but the SL65 will track him down. On the strip, this particular SL65 with drag radials will smoke a stock GT-R from start to finish. It isn't necessarily fair to compare stock GT-R's to a modified SL65...but you made the comparison of a stock GT-R....not me..
