Xpipe Question

I am the proud owner of an e55. I had the secondary cats and the resonator deleted. I got a custom made x pipe into straights to the factory mufflers and they came out impeccable. The question and problem is,even with those deleted my car pretty much still sounds stock, its like honestly i dont hear a difference and performance is pretty much the same, has any one of u guys ever experience something like this or can u shine some light on what may be the issue at hand.

From the inside it probably sounds stock because of the insulation of the car, but listen to it from the outside and you can notice it.

Otherwise, the only other steps you can take to dramatically change the sound is to mess with the muffler.

I have reso and 2nd cat delete replaced with straight pipes and gutted muffler and its pretty loud

The 55K is a quiet car (low compression) so to speak. You will need to gut the mufflers for real growl. If you just want a little snarl, add headers.

Gutting the mufflers is the only way to go if you want to get louder

run straight pipes in place of the mufflers and you will hear a noticable difference.

the issue is your mufflers, the OEM mufflers on the E and S class have alot of sound deadening material.

gutting the mufflers is one way, although crude and not the best
and will be very loud.. with the mods you have already done.

getting aftermarket mufflers like the REMUS, or EISENMANN, or SPRINT
will make it at least 50% louder,, trouble is with all mods you have already done it will make it too loud, likely,, as you did it backwards,,
you should always do mufflers first as they make the largest difference in sounds and work you way back..

likely when you get the above mufflers you will want to put your cats back on or use a high flow racing cat.

the remus is what I choose, and its the quietest of the aftermarket ones,,
about 30% lounder than stock AMG,, which I think is perfect..

try and see

Yes, headers 100%.

Kleemanns would make her sound more snarly, but my long tubes with your exact setup just sound AMAZING!!!

On the street, I don't like to advertise that I am about to kill ya, but she has enough that when I kick it down in manual coming up to the line......the potential victim knows they made the wrong choice.

To each his own of course, but I would recommend NOT to get rid of those stock mufflers. Car can start to sound real raspy with aftermarket mufflers. I just hate that.

not to mention the drone...i absolutely agree here. and if that's not enough, i'd recommend gutting the oem mufflers before spending money on overpriced stuff for our cars. this will give you nice quiet almost stock like, no drone sound when cruising at constant throttle but a nice growl when you get on it that sounds better than most aftermarket brands anyway.

my mufflers aren't gutted...i have only heard and driven e55's with them. there are several people that have done it so hopefully one of them will provide the sound clip.

In my experience you can really hurt performance running straight pipes or gutted mufflers. You'll almost surely lose torque.

Personally, I like the stealth. She makes plenty of noise when you get on it.

Adding headers would be my suggestion. Kleemans really changed the sound of my car for the better.
