The value of mods is not irrelevant, as you point out they are paid for and it is likely the only reason Jangy would even consider keeping the car. Had the car been stock(100%) Jangy walks and MBUSA takes the hit on the depreciation.

Jangy is well aware of the actual costs of the modification, time and money(loss of use). The value of the mods and hassle parting the car out are the only reason he has not WALKED AWAY. To call the "value of mods" irrelevant is nonsensical.
