Well, having read Vic55's reply, I called Keyes or whatever their name was on the dealer plate. (Dealers in Van Nuys, I hope I got it right?) Anyway, the sales guy had no idea about an E55 rolling around, and in fact, told me the first ones would hit the shores around September. He tried hard to get me to put down a deposit, but when I told him I was calling from the east coast and that I just heard rumors on a message board, he got off the phone real fast!

LOL.. Strike 1 for the poor salesman. He should check his Netstar system more frequently.

haha a lot of these salesguys don't seem to know very much ... I once asked a salesman back in 2001 what the W211 E-classes would look like and he had a print-out from mbspy. You'd think the salesguys would have more information than that!

The sales guys' (and gals') number one, two, and three priorities are to move the stock on the lot and unclaimed units which are on the way.
They have minimal interest in future vehicles since effort invested in keeping up has a poor payoff ratio....most people who are fanatics will get necessary info on their own and order without pressure.
Hard for some of us to understand, but the vast majority of sales guys are not car nuts. They're salespeople.
I once mentioned to my wife's sales guy at BMW (a 20 year veteran) that I thought it would be an enjoyable job for someone who loved cars. He countered with a story of a pharmacist who had the same notion.
The guy quit the pharm business to sell BMW's because he loved the marque and was an encyclopedia of knowledge about them.
The guy lasted 2 months.
He spent all his time either talking shop with Bimmerphiles (and not selling many units per day) or intimidating non-car fanatics with his knowledge.
Car salespeople are just salespeople.
Good ones may know quite a bit, but there's probably not a strong correlation between knowledge and ability to sell units.
