BMW's New V8TT-Vastly Underrated

A new 750i made 391rwhp on a Dynojet and the engine is rated at 400hp SAE. If that dyno is accurate this engine should be rated at 450+hp at the crank. That factory rating is just

Same thing happened with the 335's when they were released. All of the testers are factory freaks. They'll be detuned when they hit the streets and then everyone will just buy a chip. This is going to get really, really ugly.

Why switchin, Jack? You've got 570whp already... lol. Not enough for you?

Woo hoo... more F/I choices out there in the future...

13.5 is pretty quick too. IIRC that's what the E46 M3 did stock.

Interesting point...and if you use a 450hp figure for the 750i, it would have almost exactly the same power to weight ratio as the E46 M3.

Why not both!!! The old Lancia Delta S4 rally car was both...turbocharged and supercharged. The supercharger engaged at low-RPMs and a clutch switched it off at higher RPMs to be only the turbocharger from that point on.

They sat turbos are for top-end while SC is for low-end grunt. More recently, BMW have been using smaller bi-turbos to help eliminate turbo lag and to produce low end grunt. I'm not hearing any complaints about their top end power either.

It'll be interesting if we ever see Bi-Turbos in our V8s.

Impressive performance w/potential for quite a bit more from the tuners. I wonder if the next M5 will have a unique block or will feature a tuned version of this motor.

Twin Turbo's in right set-up do both LOW-end + High-end, the V12TT as well as countless other smaller displacement engines have gobs of Torque off idle @ 1600-1800 rpm's on up! the lil' 335 V6 has great low end but runs out of breath up around 120+mph due to small turbo's

Another OT thread that has nothing to do with W211s.

I SMOKED one this morning by the way, so they can't be too underrated since I only have 69hp more......

The Mercedes was almost as quick as the more powerful (and heavier) BMW—5.3 seconds to 60 mph versus 5.2
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...st+page-2.html

Its still only slightly faster than the 360hp s550, I thought it would be a bit faster with nearly 100rwhp more. And its not weight either cause the 750li is only ~120 pounds heavier.

What about MB's V12TT, the 5.5 and 6.0 AMG ones, they are underrated as well. I see many members having "Sunday built" power numbers.

My bad 335i I6, I realized it after sent... yes you're correct nearly ALL MB AMG 55/600/65's are severely underrated from factory.

The article above addresses that issue. They claim that car manufacturers heat soak the engine on turbo cars before bench testing it's horsepower rating on an engine dyno. That is why they claim that turbo cars perform better than expected on a chassis dyno...because how many owners heat soak their turbo engine before doing a pull on the dyno?.....

Yeah, I came up from the rear and he picked it up as I blasted past. So, I slowed down and let him catch up. Then I did my usual sit on his rear passenger fender and try to stay there. He punched it and so did I. I sat at the bumper easily and decided to go on past when the red light was approaching. Passed him like he was standing still at about 80mph. I stopped at the next light and waited. he got a rolling start since he was approaching as the light tunred and I punched it and caught him just as he past me and I was GONE!!

Are they supposed to be fast?

Yep, no owners I know do that and on top of that, aftermarket cooling mods further add consistency of power as it handles heat soak. I still think MBs 55K and V12TT engines are really rated on the conservative side concerning power. Of course, that's never a bad thing. I've been an enthusiast in turbocharged cars for a while, especially the Toyota JZ line, 2JZGTE and 1JZGTE and many more applications from other makers. I know quite well the wonderful aspects of a turbocharged engine and it's benefits in the street/modding scene. My latest research is on what your driving and what's in the E55....V12 BiTurbo M275 and M285 and the Supercharged 5.4 M113K.

1988 535i 5 speed
Jangy, was it a brand new 2010 750il? Of course it's not going to be faster than you, it has less power and torque, and much more weight, but I would have to imagine that it isn't slow, I think with a chip these things will get to be pretty damn fast. Just wait till they put it in a 550i with a 6 speed stick!

Anything W/4Wheels
I was at my old Bmw dealership yesterday saing hello to couple of friends that work there and one of them is the superviser. He was telling me that every single 750 that was sold came back b/c after 1500 miles half the motor dint worked. He said that it's the biggest p.o.s builed by Bmw.
