Heat Soak?
Need you help figuring out what I recently experienced in my '06 E55 AMG...
Bought 7 months ago at 27k miles, now at 39k miles with all stock components. Since I've had it, it has a had a pretty easy life, 60 mile daily highway commute, no dragstrip trips, very, few hard launches, etc.
Since I just bought it in Oct, it hasn't seen the hot summer since I've had it but the other day it was mid-80s and I was in a hurry on a 2-lane road, passing cars, frequently going full throttle, etc.
After a short while of this, I noticed that I'd go out to pass a car and it would stay in the lower gear and rev but very little power was being produced. I looked at the temp gauge thinking that maybe the car was experiencing "heat soak" like I've known forced-induction cars to do...but the temp gauge was unchanged at the halfway mark.
Is a massive loss of power under high heat and spirited use normal?
I wondered if the supercharger shut down but the drop in power seemed more severe than losing the benefit of the supercharger since a 5.4L V8 must produce 300-350hp (like the W210 presumably) on its own. I did not happen to notice if the supercharger whine was gone or not so I didn't have that bit of info to help me figure it out.
Also, no CEL either.
So anyone experienced this before? Do you have any idea what's going on?
No other notable details to report except that I just had the valve cover gaskets replaced under warranty a week ago due to some leakage. Never had other mechancial issues.
Thanks in advance

Yep, it happened to me on the first 80 degree day this year. It felt like the car had maybe 200 hp, if that. I Replaced the pump with the CM30 and it works flawlessly. I took the car to the rack yesterday and hot-lapped it 5 times in a row and saw MPH vary about .5mph, very consistent. The pump took about 45 minutes to install, very easy.

Your car is most likely under warranty, so you can have them put in the newer model cooling pump at the dealership. The newer model does a much better job as well. You might want to look into getting them to do the 10* fan mod and pick up a lower temp thermostat as well. PTE (member here) sells the thermostats.

Thanks for the replies, guys...
Is the "newer model cooling pump" the same as the CM30?
I haven't been on the board lately but my memory of the CM30 was that it was an aftermarket/non-MB part, correct?
If they're different, is one "better" than the other?
