I say cut the resonators and gut the fiberglass from your mufflers. Leave the baffles and see if that is good enough. Removing the baffles adds most of the rasp. You are looking at basically labor and under $300 for the job so why not try?

Yeah, I know about the higher compression of the NA 63 engines, but that was the best example I could think of.
In any event, I think I may try your suggestion.
If I cut the resonators, I assume I would need to run an x-pipe for best sound quality??

I went with Kleeman headers and magnaflow magnapacks. Not many on here will like it because it is very rowdy and raspy but coming from the cobra world, that is what I was after.

4 wheeled car.
Dunno if I'm too late, but an even cheaper route, is to open up the mufflers and have the fiberglass packing that is inside removed. I have done done and my resonator removed and an Xpipe put in place to replace it, and it sounds great and it's super cheap to get done. You definitely hear it from outside of the car than inside as the car is pretty soundproof, but it's a classy roar.
