What really makes this a sad story is that MB had free full service on the 04 E55s for the term of warranty 4 years, FREE!

I agree, i doubt someone that buys a E55 is concerned about the maintenance cost...besides, it was free so it was for sure not the money. She was just dumb as a stick

I'm impressed that it got passed along as long as it did on such old/dirty fluids.

That's terrible....... I bet the engine suffered intensive internal wear and damage. If the car had any factory warranty left, it probably would've been voided.

Don't worry, as soon as the new W212 E63 is released, you'll be able to pick up a 2006 E55 for same or better pricing.... or better yet a 2007 E63

A while back I was looking at some CPO'd cars at the dealers. If you go to DataScan's website and plug in the VIN or the DataScan number that's usually on the car (a small sticker on the windshield), you can get pics of the car when it was being turned in and checked out after the lease terminated.

DataScan (a company that checks lease returns for the dealers) takes detailed pics of everything and writes up the report (damages, condition, etc..) Some cars are returned really trashed, and some people clean 'em up before turning them in.

Then the dealer details them. And we all know what that means. I saw one car on DataScan that was raped when it was being driven. They didn't do anything to make it look better when turning it in. And got hit big $$ for damages. The pics even pointed out the sludge on the oil filler cap. And yeah, the car was on the dealer's lot looking all shiny and brand new........

its lucky this guy was able to get a refund, but seriously: who buys a car without taking it to a mechanic - BEFORE buying it?? buying a car is a HUGE decision and trusting carmax to be honest with you is not a good idea at all. again, i am glad the op got their money back and hopefully next time an important lesson will be learned to take any prospective car to a respectable 3rd party to inspect BEFORE purchasing it.

sucks that such an awesome car got ruined, very sad indeed.

I just tried putting in my VIN, and you also need a reference number.

Yeah, it's been about three years since I did it. And I'm thinking now that you also need that DataScan sticker number off the windshield. The dealers have those numbers.

It was an eye opener for me. Lease cars can get beat on for sure.

I got to CarMax @ 3pm. The car was listed as 31.998 not 29.998 like on autotrader, so they said they will match the price of yesterday for today only. That's the only reason i picked it up then, but to me it didn't really matter...i paid cash..went and got it checked out and got my check badk today. If anything i got to beat the **** of the car for free

I wonder if they would consider parting it out . Does it have vented seats?

Nope, No park-tronic, vented seats and keyless go.

I doubt they'll part it out. The Service Manager @ CarMax was trying to convince me that Flecture was only "recommending" me those items...ya, like they'd recommend me that my rear main seal is leaking along with my major service being past 32xxx miles!......But then again, what would i konw...he was the service manager for Saturn for 5 years

I never did like Carmax, I would never buy any Benz or any other luxury car from them, they have no clue in hell about what to do with them, as evidenced here. What a bunch of f$ckers. I feel sick about that car though, really too bad, somebody buy it and rescue it, it doesn't deserve this. Can't believe the Carmax SM told you that, omg.
