I just went to my local dealership and was quoted $300 for a new chrome key (keyless go). Anyone know where i can get a better deal? If so post it up

I believe I paid close to that a few months ago when I bought my car. I couldn't find any uncut spares on eBay (which I've done for other cars) so I had no choice but to get it from the dealer.

If you're in the Bay area, http://www.oaklandbenz.com/specials/parts.htm

Also, I don't think you can reprogram a smartkey to work with another car's smartkey. Other older threads on the forum covered this. There was also a thread that showed how you can move the guts of a smartkey into another smartkey, but that required some soldering.

you need to get it at a dealer unless you want a fancy keychain.

The infrared key can not be transfer from car to car as they are coded according to the VIN..So this mean that you have to get it from the dealership...it's a paint in the ****..

Here's the post: https://mbworld.org/forums/3284033-post730.html

Or if you prefer to read the whole book, it's: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-class-30.html

I personally would prefer to just spend the $200-300 on a new key because I don't trust myself, but there ya go.

i bought a new uncut old style key from ebay so i will not need to solder. i just want to swap the entire guts over. my key is beat up.

i still can't really find an answer on how to pull the guts out of the case

There is a very good reason why you can only get a new key from the dealer and why keys cannot be switched from car to car.. It is called auto theft.

This key topic comes up every few months. People still get scammed by ebay keys. Only the dealer or an indie with friends at a dealer can get you one. The price in the Oakland link above is pretty good, considering the dealer pays roughly $50 under that.
You're pretty much going to bend over if you live in Canada.
