Outside Temps show 160F
It's getting hot in Atlanta but not 160F hot. My outside temp goes all over the place - in a few seconds it can jump from 90F all the way to 125+ every now and again it goes all the way to 160F.
What could be the cause of this, the engine temp stays normal.
Thanks

believe it or not, this was the first symptom I got right before my alternator went bad. I ordered a new sensor and before I got to install it my alternator crapped out. after the alternator was replaced the sensor worked perfectly again.
don't ask me to explain the connection cause I can't...it's just info I'm passing along.

Mine can fluctuate as well, but not that drastic. Today its 85 out, and it was reading between 90-95. Where is the sensor located, I would change it out just to see if it makes a difference.

Your sensor got loose. It happened to me recently and it cause my check engine light to come on. Unfortunately for me it happened when I was vacationing in Louisiana so the stealership they charged me 100 bucks!

And, right you are. Mine came loose and picked up the engine heat. The temp varied from 80 or so to 160 or so. The dealership installed a new sensor and and a new bracket on the car and charged the repair to the warranty.

You can see the sensor or the bracket near the driver side fog light. It should be visable through the mesh cover. If it came loose, you might be able to remove the mesh and reach in and grab the sensor and put it back in the bracket.
