changing gear

dear friends,

i noticed one thing after i tuned my car,

if i am driving @ 40km and then hit the kick down, it changes to 1st gear. but when it wants to change to 2nd, when RPM @ max 6700, i feel like it hesitate and takes a while to change ><, also from 2nd to 3rd ( this one not always)

but if i hit full throttle from 0 , it changes to 2nd in no time (like how it meant to do)

anyone with similar issues ?

is it from ECU Tune ?

or i need to do a TCU tune or reflash my gear ? "( 5 seconds method)

regards,

That is the car catching its breath. Openning up the exhaust without compensating on the intake can cause that too.

Who tuned it? I know we went through this before but i can't remember you telling us...

me headers are still stock, and just removed resoneters, not the catalyst ( the ones after the headers dirctly )

i tuned it in a shop here that is called Digi-Tec (i think it is a german company, not sure). he tunes SLR, hundreds of G55's and alot of E/CLS 55. also Brabus bullet ( C-class V12).

i asked my freind who did his car before me at the same place. and he said it is the same with him.

i am going to add long tubes headers and bigger intake ( maybe VRP ) and then do a ECU tune.

Then I hope it goes away as you open up the intake. I had a JEEP that did a similar thing and it quit as soon as I put a freer flow Cold Air intake.

Good luck my friend!!

The same thing happens to me everytime I do the sneaky ECU reset. Not sure if this helps, but maybe your adaptive tranny tables were reset.

Hmm is it not because the tranny is slower changing than the engine revving up from just after changing down?

Done this once or twice when on a roll... punch it in first and the revs climb so fast the tranny cannot change up fast enough and you hit the limiter, once things settle briefly the tranny shifts and off you go again... In S mode that is.

Also noticed that you cannot change gears up or down manually within lets say what feels like 2 seconds but probably less time, of a previous change. A bit annoying when changing down from high speed to a stop or v slow corner. Also in M you cannot do the trick of just holding down the downshift button and automatically selecting the lowest feasible gear... nice touch in S mode but would also be handy in M.

Takes loads of practice getting the 1-2nd shift in M mode right - actually I have given up and find the S mode auto shift up works much better... actually S mode all round works pretty nicely but does not allow you to hold a higher gear if you want when pushing, and by upshifting early on a punch eliminates the dreaded tranny bucking that you get when abruptly tapping off... one thing I really hate about this car.

The biturbos don't have this - they are silky smooth by comparison, think it has to do with the S/C loading / unloading.... anyhow ... sorry have gone on a bit here .. over and out.

I think there should be a synch between ecu and tcu, because all 55 that i know do that mine included.A tcu tune is in order.

I'm either not understanding OP's issue or something because mine doesn't do anything odd like that. My shifts are all slow compared to other cars, but dropping gears (i.e. into first as OP said) is the slower part. The up shifts are cleaner for me.

I keep wanting to mod the valve body but just never was too sure about it.

TCU upgrade is definitely in order and I believe the next series of major mods for these rides. Who will have them and when is kind of lagging and I don't know enough about RennTech's tranny package to know how good it is.

I just upgraded my transmission with Maybach stronger shafts, clutch packs and misc. small parts. I also upgraded the torque converter and purchased a TCU tune from Germany. It will be interesting to see the difference these tranny mods make and how well they work together at shifting, drivability, and at WOT.
I'll post the results once I drive it.

Well done!! Definitely post your opinions when you drive it. Your build has been extremely interesting and unique.

Would you be willing to elaborate on the parts and especially TCU tune? EVOtech by any chance? I am also very interested in the TQ converter. Did you upgrade it or switch to clutch plates?
