Question E63 track tempature?

What's the hottest we should let the car run at? Is this a standard thing to cars, or car specific?

Don't be surprised that temps go up 20C.

The coolant system actually increases coolant temp from 80C to 100C when using the engine hard, like when on the track.

It does this to allow the cooling system to get rid of thermal energy easier, the hotter the radiator the more heat is transferred to the air.

Go drive and don't worry about it.

Don't worry about water temp unless you see extremes, as our cars keep those maintained pretty well. I wouldn't, however, let the oil temps exceed 125 C (at least not for too long). After collecting a lot of data, I can confidently say that once your oil temp reaches 105 C, you will lose 0.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile for every subsequent hot lap you do for up to 0.3 seconds, then your car will level off. I've noticed that the best performance results for 1/4 mile runs are achieved when oil temps are between 75 to 80 C. You will get 3 runs before you hit 105 C, then ECU WILL pull timing.

I know that a 0.1 second loss may not seem much to you, but trust me, once you get into it, you'll want to maximize your results In your case, the 0.1 second is even more critical because your car is likely already 0.1 second slower than other E63s due to the heavier pano roof. But regardless of the numbers, you will have an absolutely awesome time at the track

Yes, under normal daily driving, oil temps should be between 95 to 105 C depending on the climate and the area in which you live. If you push it too hard, the oil temp will keep rising..... I think Juicee was able to hit 132 C before, but when that happens, the car's performance is very sluggish and you'll have to stop pushing the car for 4 to 5 minutes to drop the oil temp back to the 100 C range. For 1/4 mile runs, it is best to let the car cool down once you arrive at the track, and then when it's time to run, warm the car until oil temp reach 75 C, then start staging.

Mo, you assume everyone is a dragster.

intellilogic, Mo is talking about HP loss and not maximum allowable temp. I would talk to those who track their cars to see what they run for temp.

I seem to remember oil @ 127C when I was doing an AMG Challenge event.

This cool article I found talks about protecting to 204C

Sorry, I thought you meant a drag track not a road course. And you were right, I wasn't talking about maximum allowable temp. I've only taken my car to only one road course..... I do not remember my temp every exceeding 125 C. But in general, I would think that holding the car at such high oil temps for too long is not good. I would feel a little bit more comfortable stopping and letting the car cool down a little
