Does your ventilated/cooled seats actually work ?

I can hardly tell the difference when they are on or off ? What are they actually supposed to do ?

Thanks!

They're extermely subtle in operarion. I too thought they were not even working but after test driving several cars I realised that's the way they all are.

At first I expected to be able to feel a rush of air coming out of the leather but you can barely even feel the flow coming through them.

After a couple of minutes on a hot day in light clothing you can feel them working though. I find in heavier clothing though I'd never know if they were turned on or not.

+1...I would say that on my SL65 the cooling effect from the seats is much greater...stronger fan (?).

I am glad I am not the only one that doesn't really feel the cooling. Unless I am wearing very light weight shorts.

I agree, the cooling effect feels more like a light fan than anything else. The option wasn't worth the price they charged.

On my '04 S55 they work probably as designed. After a few minutes the leather seat is very cool to the touch, and I am noticeably more comfortable. I, too, was expecting an AC duct blowing on my backside, but unfortunately that's not what it does.

I have no idea what the option cost was, as I bought the car used, but I would definitely spring for it, considering that if I could afford a new S-Class AMG I could certainly afford the ventilated seats. I'd even get them in the rear seats!

They call them "ventilated" instead of "cooled" and that is all they do, which is something. BMW and Jag's aren't any better. Try the cooled seats in a Caddy DTS and you'll see what they should have been. They almost make your rear feel wet .

+1 they are not "cooling" seats, the option is called "ventilated" seats.... the option was designed to provide very light ventilation mainly to prevent sweat on hot summer days.

I do wish however that Mercedes would provide a cooling seats option.

well if it doesn't cool . it doesn't make u sweat

at least for me in our weather

but also my lexus (LS460L) which i love to drive it in the summer due to its magnificent A/C cools the seats faster and better. ( in here, japan cars cool way much beter in the summer and of course Toyota has some high 5s in this thing.

however, on day i wen't with my friend in his Infinity FX50S and tried the ventilated option

guys, it blows cold air as it was a dash A/C. it sure feels nice in the summer

I've recently done some interior/leather work and was able to see the size and location of the two fans that are powered by the little blue light button on the door panel. They are little! However, I don't see why with a little know-how someone couldn't install much larger fans in the seats, there was plently of room for it. I wanted to keep the fans and wiring from the seats I purchased to integrate into mine but it just would have been too much work. I have a 350 so I didn't get the ventilated option but my interior is E500 leather. I do have the ventilated option on my CL and while I know where your coming from not being able to really feel it, if you turn the feature on and get out of the car and put your hand infront of the seat back a little below mid-back area you can really feel it coming out of the ventilated leather.

LOL...Hope to see you at the BBQ down your way. I've got several projects going on with the SL65 but I don't think they will be done by Aug 1. Straight pipes will be in but the new rear diffuser will probably be still in transit from Revozport...the front lip spoiler is in, though.

The updated diamond stitch interior won't be in until after the 1st...that should look cool.

was it difficult to access the fans in the seat? larger, more powerful fans would be great.
it kind of sucks about how they are set up now because there are 3 setting for the ventilated seats and since the max setting is so weak the 2 lower settings are pretty much useless.

I would actually be more interested in making it cooler than stronger.

If you know someone who is familiar with them the leather seat skins are pretty easy to remove once the seats are out of the car. Then you'll be able to see the fans and the rest of the inner workings. The fans look similar to something similar to what you might find cooling your playstaion or a small computer. There were two fans attached to one another. They are mounted in a wire cage which the foam is attached to that gives the seat form.

You may also be able to get to the fans by removing the seat back but I'll have to check.

thanks please keep us posted! take some pics if u can!

i think making it cooler would be tough. would have to somehow reroute some ac air into the fan. i assumed it already did that but i guess not.

We have to somehow direct the air from the rear AC vents to the seat fans. That way it will blow cool air.

Maybe have a duct from the rear AC foot duct run up to the back of the front seat where the intake is.

or maybe before the rear seat ducts.
on mine, the ac air or the heater air passes through the central storage unit (armrest). is it the same for the E?
