but if you have the chance to replace your TCU with one from an SL55 car, I would try that first.
It would be very interesting to know because your car's VIN should not be tied to the tcu module.
yes

I found an SL55 EGS unit for $50??? seems too cheap but can only get it Monday. Will try it ... I don't have DAS DEV so won't fool around with my TCU code just yet and until I have heard back from the tuners.

I will find a solution, was just hoping to get it done for tomorrow. That's life.

Many thanks for the help and info!!! Much appreciated.

Real quick Steve. When you plug in the TCU from the SL, go into Star and do a "vin synch". Only takes a second and usually works fine.

I am trying to find the darn setting in Star right now but can't find it.

Guys at my shop swap around TCU's all the time (from similiar cars that is). This one would be a tick different but my hunch says that it should work.

VIN sync is available in any Star unit. No need for developer mode for that.

I'll keep looking for it.

Hi Steve,

Sorry to see you having problems with your car, it would have been nice for us all to meet today at he FT event, only myself and one other turned up... my E55 made it back ok after a few runs.

Not may cars there so everyone had loads of runs, fastest car being a viper @ 199.01mph over the mile, he tried really hard but could not make 200.

Hope you sort out the car soon.

Paul

It sure was, RUF no show and the nissan had mechanical issues and only did 1 run I think.

I was really happy with a 12.366 1/4 and the standing mile in 31.2secs @ 162.54. Strange thing was the other 55 there was trapping 165+ but I was quicker overall, we put it down to his 180 pulley vs my 168, what do you think?

Very interesting .. the long runs on modded cars vs stock cars is wierd. Some decent evidence that stock could be quicker over a longer run as the modded cars build up too much heat.

Even your qtr mile time was quicker. It also was interesting that when you ran slower qtr times you had higher 1 mile trap speeds....

I dunno all very strange... one thing is clear for these cars being in low 12's in the qtr on a runway they do not have the performance at higher speed... I think its combo of gearing and heatsoak.

Cooling mod is probably the most important mod of all I think.... before you do anything to our cars... dayam vadim where are those overhead coolers????

Just noticed this thread steve, shame both you and akki couldnt make it although paul is a good sport.

Both me and paul had several runs together with pauls K1 getting the best of me off the line, i think it was a combo of both my larger asp pulley plus my ****ty worn rear sport contis "there even more screwed now after that mighty burn out lol" but once i found traction all was good.

I kept having a minor issue off the line in that i kept having a slight hesitation as if it was bogging down for a split second, whereas pauls 55 just hauled *** off the line but i was reeling him in up top, maybe dms's tune not quite so good with the asp pulley, god knows.

Had an awesome run with a vxr8 that had a wortec supercharger fitted,620 bhp 6.2ltr but my 55 came good after i powerbraked to 1100 rpm on the line then let loose beating him off the line and all the way to over 140 ish.

mid 12's for a stage1 is about right and the 165.77 standing mile was impresive as was the trophy at the end for winning german standard class lol lol.

Hope all gets resolved your side fairly quickly and we meet at some other event in the near future.

rgds.

Kleemann will do the EGS ...

- changes for 2.82 ratio,
- raise torque limits
- and sharpen shifting speeds.....

For €795 of your finest Euro... (approx $1130)
Excl shipping back to me.

That said what other option do I have. MKB just ignore me ... and no one else I have spoken to does this sort of thing... so there we have it. Monopoly situation with monopoly prices and perfectly inelastic demand.... got to do it to get the car to work - I sure as hell aint pulling this diff out!

At least the TCU/EGS is getting a full "remap" not just the gearing change.

Now I have to pull the EGS out... under the left front floor footwell carpet right?

O BTW ... according to Kleemann you cannot swap out one EGS with another - e.g. E55 with and SL55's so I am not going to pursue that.

Sigh....yes that was the only route I found that would work as well. Tragic given the added cost! Still for a TCU/EGS remake, it is a lot cheaper then most!

Sounds like loads of fun and I am gutted I missed it. I will be around for the next one hopefully!!!

You did very well - also have to take the surface into account... I doubt it was anything close to a well prepped drag strip...

This seemed to be much safer than Vmax... Vmax did not have much room for braking our lardy sedans without bending some rotors...

I think the correct phrase is will hopefully eventually have.

As you know the 600's come with 2.65 stock...same exact as the E55.

I have a Quaife sitting on my desk here. (12 bolt), but now I am trying to source the SL55 differential as we speak. I have had poor luck as of yet...I could only find one for $1250 before shipping. When/if I ever find a diff for 750-800, I will get it and build the Quaife into it.

In the interim I have have researching how to get around the TCU issue/EGS issue.

After talking to a few different people, Kleeman was the cheapest option. I was really hoping that you could make the TCU swap with reVIN work, as it would have been even cheaper. Oh well.

Should have it back fairly soon.

sorry, but ... can't get how you changed your mind so quickly

so many efforts as a DIYer, then looking into car breakers for 50$ parts .. now you give up for a ready package ...

Yeah I eventually found out the $50 "part" was an offer to repair an exisiting unit ONLY. I could not (stll cannot) find any SL55 unit ANYWHERE at any breakeryard ... Merc wanted over £2750 for a new one...

Kleemann package is only for the EGS software not any hardware. They also lift torque limits and sharpen up shifting speeds.... thats how I am trying to rationalise this to myself anyway.

I don't have WIS/DAS working let alone the developer version or any of the cables etc... Then there is always the chance I ferk something up properly and then I am in for a big repair bill.

Only advantage is I get the VAT back which in Denmark is quite a bit of cash. 25% in fact. So instead of €795 its ~€600.

Still alot, but as I said - what else can I do?

For so much talk on this forum about guys offering TCU modifications there has been only silence .....

PS. If I had to mod my car again - there is no doubt I would go to Kleemann / MKB and let them do the whole lot.... this bit here, bit there business is a complete waste of time and resources (if you add in your personal time spent). I still enjoyed the tinkering though

I know what you mean ...
just sad that half the game is over now

ps:
maybe a lot of forum guys were scared by that 50$ budget you threw

.. the same as you got scared after hearing of that 2750 pounds for a new EGS module .. while the real cost is about 600 !

U kidding right? That's what kills me about Merc... call them up with the part number and they suck some figure from god knows where ... seriously $600?

They are like...

"Hmmm we dont carry that in stock....
Hmmm nothing in our network....
Hmmm will have to come from Germany....
Hmmm and that will be your arm and both legs please sir...."

Friggin unreal Benz can be so incompetent at getting a price for a part.

For $600 I may well have had a tinker and got the full DAS setup... I nearly fell over when Benz gave me the price - but in the end it was the 034 545 15 32 unit I asked for not the SL - so I would have got the wrong part anyway!!!!! I did find this model # on ebay for $499 or something thereabouts.... but not the one I needed in the end. The SL version is completely awol.

I like the panel where all the electronics for our cars hide in the passenger footwell... very neat and very accessable.

.. I talked about 600 pounds !
as you can check at an on-line part store
(very strangely, the SLR egs is much cheaper .. )

in any case, if you or somebody else having a chance to swap the module from another E or SL could tell what happens, it would be helpful to understand a few more things ...

thanks
