Quote: Well I went out and checked, no spare. There is a toolkit, very small, probably worth 20lbs. Under the cover my trunk looks like this, it's an extra storage area where I keep my own pump. No room for a Res under there unless I remove this bucket like storage bin and replace it with something flat.
Tear it out, you don't need it wouldn't you rather drop your IAT's 40+ degrees w/ICE cooler?

Funny how different these models are, my SL is bare metal under main carpet piece, had spare/tools etc mounted to floor of trunk...

I've looked into a trunk mounted reservoir extensively - and as long as we leave the heat exchanger in place it will actually help to melt the ice even quicker.

The hoses running from the back to the front will either need to be heavily insulated ($$$ and weight!) or will let heat in from the exhaust and underbelly of the vehicle. The pump will create heat, and unless it goes straight into the intercooler from the pump the heat exchanger will actually "pre-heat" the coolant.

For this to work and be effective the hoses need to keep as much heat out of the coolant as possible, and there really needs to be a temperature sensitive bypass valve next to the heat exchanger. If the water approaching the valve is colder than the coolant/water in the heat exchanger it stay shut. When the coolant from the ice box has become heat soaked the valve(s) would introduce the heat exchanger into the system, along with it's capacity in nice cool coolant.

I've used trunk mounted ice boxes on a few supercharged and turbo mustang setups, and needed to change out the coolant after every pass down the drag strip with reservoirs about 2-3 times the size of the one we're looking at in this thread.

I think it WILL help with ETs, and love the design to allow Dry ice, but am skeptic at best until we see some numbers. IAT before and after would be great.

Having a methanol kit with an optional tune that you could flip on and off on the fly would be very beneficial to these cars, i'd definitely be interested.
