New 2006 E55 owner..Love it
I just got my 2006 E55 this past Monday...boy am I loving this thing!
I have a few newbie questions...
Keep in mind my car did not come with any of the manuals or records so I'm downloading maintenance manuals and the such now. I also bought a full set of manuals from Ebay.
How do you know if you have the W210 or W211 engine? Are there major differences?
Thoughts on extended warranty? yes, no, maybe
I know about the button to select sport 1, sport 2, etc. What are the major differences, if any?
I did just discover that magic CD changer button...nicccce!
I'm guessing this car did not come equipped with the phone since I see no cradle as referenced in the manuals. Is there Bluetooth capability?
Thanks! This is my first Benz...just getting out of a Lexus which I loved but damn, this is the real deal!

Your car is a W211 (1996-2002 was W210 & refers to the chassis, not the engine)
Warranty: Yes. Absolutely yes.
Sport 1,2, Comfort: These 3 choices are for suspension stiffness. Sport 2 also lowers the car a little bit. I leave mine on Sport2 24/7.
Your car will be bluetooth capable, but the cost will depend on what your car has in it for wiring etc....check with the dealer, or someone who knows more about the systems.

Any recommendations on where to get the extended warranty?
I was told that you can only get the Mercedes ex. warranty if you originally bought from MB.
I was quoted some pretty ridiculous amounts for bumper to bumper coverage. I don't have the quotes in front of me but they were upwards of $8K+ for 100K.

Maybe a dumb question but the 50K/3yr extended warranty is the extension piece? i.e. 50K past the original 50K Bumper 2 B warranty?
Also, is the extended maintenance you got bumper to bumper or was it tiered (Silver, Gold, Platinum etc)?

Congrats on the new ride.
Yes, get extended coverage. 3rd party will get you good coverage for a lower price. Chrysler seems to be the plan of choice on this forum with little if any complaints about being denied for claims. Just do a search and do your homework.

Warranty is absolutely a must. My wife and I bought the Chrysler warranty for a newly aquired 2005 E55 wagon with 30k miles and paid $3200 for a 5 year/70k mile warranty that will cover the car up to 100k miles. We also recently bought a 2005 SL55 that had 420 miles on it and we bought a 5 year 70k mile warrnty from the MB dealer for $3500.
Here's a link to contact info for the Chrysler warranty. Contact Todd, his direct number is in this thread:
