? on bleeding the heat exchanger

What's the best way to "activate" the heat exchanger pump (factory third generation Bosch ) to bleed out the air following a heat exchanger upgrade? I don't have a MB star or aftermarket equivalent, so I'm looking for other options here.

Can I just apply a 12V source (e.g., car battery) to the pump, or will that have too much amperage? If not an auto battery, what can be used as an alternative?

Also, I assume the engine does not need to be running for this process. Is that right?

Thanks for the links. After all of the DIY's I've posted, of course I should have thought to look there. My bad.

you want to check this thread out..

its a bit newer and it has pictures too.

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...-pump-e55.html

I also posted more details info on the process.

Basically, you can do it after your commute from work to home.

Pop the hood, remove the plug with a pair of pliers, place the small hose, routed to the reservoir,

turn on the engine let the bubbles disappear and turn off engine

remove hose and plug the IC line once more and close reservoir.

If the car is hot, the IC pump will come on. If the car is cold.. it will need to reach a certain temp before pump starts.

BTW: After installing a new IC pump a few weeks back, I have bled the system about 3 times.. and all 3 had air bubbles still showing up. Last night a had a few more, but much better than the first time.

thats for bleeding coolant in the high pressure system. this thread is about bleeding coolant in low pressure system. here are the instructions given by MB to MB techs on bleeding low pressure (supercharger) coolant system...

Yes you have to clamp the return line just below the bleed nipple.

good point.

I have done both way.. with and without clamping. You don't to clamp too hard, just enough to create preasure.

The clamping make pressure and the coolant flows quicker. I have done without clamping and I have obtained the same results. Just takes longer and there is a greater change you can spill coolant all over.

I know from experience.
