tips or hints on installing trunk spoiler?
planning on installing the oem amg spoiler on my car. ive been told it comes with double sided tape already on the spoiler. any tips or hints to make the install easy? i plan on removing the zaino wax with isopropyl alcohol. is that sufficient? do you recommend using a lubricant (soapy water or windex) between the paint and tape during the install so it can be moved into place? will that affect bond strength? do you need to use clamps while it dries to keep the ends down? any other tips to get it right the first time? thanks.

If you bought the OEM spoiler from MB (like i did), it will come with 3M tape already applied & it will have 4 little tabs attached to the part that you peel off.
If you pull those tabs back 1/2 inch to get them started, you can pull them out one at a time as you hold the spoiler in place...just make sure to go slowly so you don't rip the plastic.
Use the 3rd brake light to line up the spoiler, as it basically wraps right around it.
This job is easier than you might expect.
p.s. On my wife's car, i decided to cheap out and buy the Ebay version of this spoiler. It fits almost exactly the same as the OEM one, but the quality is not even close.

using a 50/50 mix of isopropyl and water should be enough to prep the area youre applying the wing to. if youre looking for a bonding agent on top of that, use 3m #94 primer.

Both DrDrilZ and I made this mistake. Mine is so bad that you can easily feel the peaks and valleys on the top of the spoiler. I did make a rookie mistake of installing it before I checked it over. My OEM is on the way, but I have the job of removing the old one first. Not to Hijack a thread, but any suggestions on removing a piece of junk spoiler?

To remove it just pour rubbing alcohol on it and let it sit. It will dissolves the addhesive without damaging the paint. To install I left the area damp using rubbing alcohol, and once it evaporates the the strength of the tapes adhesive bond comes back.

thanks guys. just finished installing this myself. was pretty easy. held the spoiler in place with some masking/painters tape. then slowly peeled the backing off the tape and pressed as i went. i have a couple of clamps on the ends to help hold down the edges (dont think its really needed). i did use alcohol to remove the wax. i do think that step is needed. the masking tape wouldnt stick very well to the waxed areas. after alcohol, much better adhesion. thanks again.

I just ordered the OEM one from getmercedesparts.com which is actually run by a dealer in MD.
I also got the one from Ebay which wasn't good at all except for the paint quality. I did get the refund.
I don't see many cars with this rear lip spoiler around here, which is a good thing. Even a lot of E55s (W211) do not have this. I used to think it was standard on E55.

I purchased a CF spoiler from ebay, that was of great quality, the biggest hurdle is lining the thing up before sticking it to the rear deck lid. I had this spoiler placed on my 07E350, with 3M tape, once the spoiler is attached to the deck lid, it's dam near impossible to remove without alcohol. Measure your spoiler and deck lid, compare the measurements, compensate for centering it up, and start peeling back on side first. then all should go well for you.

I got the spoiler delivered today. It was really less than 2 days, and the shipping was only $11.
First of all the weight of the OEM one is about half of the Ebay one.
I think the Ebay one could have been a problem with opening / closing of the trunk.
I have not test fit the OEM one yet, but the shape is different from Ebay one. I took some pictures to help out anyone who are looking to do this mod.

Now, the question is, I'm not sure how I'm going to install this.
This is basically "L" shape with tapes on 2 sides.
I know the tape is very sticky, and as soon as it touches the car you cannot move it.
Am I supposed to align as best as I can, and try to press against the top and the rear side at the same time?
