What are the best bang for your buck Mods?
I have a stock 06 E55. And I was wondering what are some of the best bang for your buck mods that you can do..
When I had my supra I gained 40hp from uprgading my down pipe which cost $300 for a nice stainless steel with polish finish.
Also gained another 100HP by getting boost contoller which let me go from the factory 11-psi to 18-psi which was the most psi you could run on pump gas..
Let me know your guys got on this..

I'll let you know straight off the bat that you will have to spend a lil more money on the benzo then you did on your supra.
The general consensus on the board about bang for the buck is the ECU/Pulley combo. I would highly recommend you add a CM30 pump and an upgraded Heat Exchanger while you're at it. That will take care of your heat issue.
Good luck!

1. Larger pulley/ECU (Kleeman/Evosport/VRP/LET/etc...)
NOTE: This might make it necessary to upgrade your heat exchanger.
2. Decrease unsprung weight (lighter brake rotors/wheel setup)
Caveat: Make sure your IC pump is fully functional...most guys here just upgrade with either the new Bosch MB pump or go with the Johnson CM30 pump (the latter is most popular).
I would shop around for #1. Overall, most people have had good experience with all mentioned above. The deciding factor is location and pocketbook.

That's cool thanks for the info guys...
Is there a website where I can check out all these goodies for the best prices. Or do I have to go their individual sites?
How do you know if your IC pump is not working properly? Is there simething in particular that I should be looking for?

Do a few WOT blasts back to back and see if the SC shuts off (major loss in power). if not, you are fine.
If you have warranty, I suggest getting some warranty work done before any modding. That way, things like the updated SC clutch, water pump, steering rack plate etc. are all taken care of.
Best Bang for the buck:
Stage 1 (pulley and ECU tune). Do your research as this is also one of the most dangerous decisions you can make.
Cooling Upgrade: Added PSI will add major heat. The OEM setup barely keeps up as is.
EVOSport Rotors: Changed my car's feel immediately.
Wheels: Lighter and wider.

see my heat exchanger install thread for more info.

Like everyone has mentioned, Stage 1 with cooling will make some nice power at a reasonable price.

Bassn07 i was also surprised to see my iat numbers. Since saturday I have been driving around with the datalogger plugged in and the results are the same. I have a 178mm pulley.
The aux heat exchanger that I got is made by active autowerks.

What spikes are you seeing? Mine hits 130 and gets down quick. It used to hit 160 and recover more slowly.
I have been whinning about that CM30 for so long now. It is a bilge pump. Why would it perform as well as a pump designed to do exactly what we want?
I'm running the davies pump and love it.

honestly if i had to start modding from scratch again...i would first separate cooling systems and add a tank, upgrade the SC pump and add a heat exchanger. once the air temps are under control do everything else. just my 2 cents.

sounds like the cooling system is the biggest weakness on this car...
Im going to guess that since you guys mention IC pumps failing then that means that a heat exchanger is something like a intercooler but with fluid running through it right?
I never had a S/C car before so I don't know how different things are from a S/C setup to a turbo set up.
