Rear reservoir project. 9 gal :)

Got my rear reservoir in the mail yesterday that was built for me to my specs. I got it with two lids. One for dry ice and one for regular ice/water/coolant.

20"x15"x7.5" - the tank will sit under the trunk floor.

which give me 9.7 Gal volume. Subtracting the dry ice cylinder I am roughly at 9-9.2 gal. the dry ice lid has a fitting and nylon tube to lead outside of the car so that CO2 from dry ice can escape.

I got the following fittings/misc parts from frozen boost ...
1 x Brass 1/2" NPT Male to 3/4" Barbed 90 Elbow (WAT001015)
6 x Stainless Steel 1" Worm Gear Clamp (14-27mm) (CLA001032)
2 x Brass 1/2" NPT Male to 3/4" Barbed Straight (WAT001017)
1 x Brass 1/2" NPT Female to 1/2" NPT Male Full Port Ball Valve (WAT001228)

I will pick up the goodyear heater hose today and have this done by saturday night.

Big thanks to Sean (Thericker) for the info he provided to me to get me going

now the pics

Watching with interest how you get going. Let me know where you choose to route the hoses and how much u needed. Whats the ball valve for?

I am toying to set mine up so it runs with the tank in and also with the tank out. A two pump system - put the OEM bosch close to the tank and leave the CM90 upfront withe the CODE3. The when I dont need the tank - e.g. winter it can come out - or when I am not at the track etc...

Maybe the removability is not that crucial ... dunno still thinking about it

I have actually yet to have my S/C shut down on me and thats including doing a run to 175mph....

as of right now i do not see need for a 2nd pump. a local buddy of mine is using 1 stock bosch pump with a similar setup and went 11.3 with similar mods on 85 degree humid night. from what i saw there is no reason why one pump can not handle this setup

yup. from what i gather more volume = more consistent power. plus i am not actually going to have that much in there, but when i do want to i can easily put a bag of ice in there.

better think twice about not running to capacity. in a tank that large there is enough room for the water to slosh around to the point where you can suck air in the pick up line and you'll ruin that pump quickly. it only takes a few seconds of cavitation to burn up a pump.

Are you mounting the pump by the reservoir or are you keeping it in the stock location?

+1,000 w/that large a tank you need to fill to near capacity, your send line will easily be exposed while driving if ONLY partially filled(sending hot air bubbles is NOT good, you'd need to re-bleed the sytem) also you def need a 2nd pump it's only $145 & needed w/3/4" diameter hose...

My 5.5 gallon holds about 3 bags of ice + water/coolant, your Valdez Tanker should hold nearly twice the ice! I.E. 6+ 7lb-10lb bags...

Althoug I agree 100% with you statment, for efficientcy sake. The pump itself will not die that quickly my friend.

ALL water pumps have their impellers blended to with stand breif cavatation periods. It is an a trait that they must have due to the nature of their environment.

But nevertheless, having ANY air in the system, negates the advantage of the large tank

FILL THAT BUGGER

Sorry guys, its the engineer in me

Call me if ANY Q's come-up on routing lines, basically the neatest approach is to route both lines under your stock MB frame covers/pans then splice into HE...

yes....good catch. i have thought that thru as well. if you take a closer look at where the return line is.....its in the back portion of the tank (closer to rear of the car)under acceleration the water will be pushed towards the back of the tank. either way i am not planning on running with that thing empty....got a big one for a reason.

if i see the need for 2nd pump i'll add it. as of right now i saw a stock one work alone and it looked perfect to me. guy's car runs great too.

iirc (and i could be wrong) johnson only gives a 30 second window to run the pump dry. wouldn't happen in this environment but still warrants consideration.

obviously you know that the pump is running even under braking so the water won't stay at the back of the tank all the time. there's no reason not to fill the tank to capacity.

Sort of irrelevant but last time at the track I went through 75 lbs of ice in 4 runs.

Icing coolant/water isn't the only + to this mod, the overall added capacity of total coolant volume is indeed aiding in your stock IC's & Heat Exchangers efficiency, the added 3/4" hose transferring coolant from Reservoir to HE is acting like a radiator as well, cooling the liquid a bit while transferred the 30 odd feet back n' forth.

Damn Mark!!! That thing is huge. You'll soon find out how much it cost to fill these bad boys with bags of ice...haha. I've gone through $30-40 worth of ice on a hot day.

Keep us posted with the install.

This is slightly off topic, but is there anyway you can reduce the size of the pictures? They are showing up way too big to view properly without scrolling..... that tank must be HUGE
